COLUMBIA, Mo. – The 11th-ranked Truman men's soccer team stepped out of NCAA action on Friday night to battle perennial-NAIA power Columbia (Mo.) College and walked away with a 2-2 draw.
After falling behind, 2-0, midway through the second half, sophomore Andy Chapman and senior Matt Kimball scored twice in a minute and 22 seconds to send the teams home with a draw. It was Chapman's fifth goal of the season, while Kimball logged his team-leading ninth.
Truman was out-shot 24-10 and had to overcome playing a man down for the final 55 minutes after junior Matt Sanderson was sent off following a straight red in the 55th minute. But the Bulldogs persevered, holding CC (10-5-2) to just two goals and staying within reach in a physical affair. The Cougars were whistled for 21 fouls and three yellow cards, while Truman (9-2-2) was called for 15 fouls and a pair of yellows to go with the red.
The Bulldogs will travel to Tahlequah, Okla., this Sunday for an in-region match against Northeastern (Okla.) State at 12 pm.
