KIRKSVILLE - - The Truman volleyball team was led by a 12-kill, 14-dig double-double from freshman Allie Brak (The Colony, Texas, The Colony), but a balanced Washburn bunch held off the Bulldogs on Friday night, 3-0 (-18, -22, -19) in Pershing Arena.
5th-ranked Washburn (24-1, 11-0 MIAA) had five players total between 8-12 kills each to slip past Truman (16-11, 5-6 MIAA). The Bulldogs hit .172 for the match, committing just 13 attack errors, but only put away 36 kills on the evening to WU's 51.
Brak's 12 kills led the Bulldogs, while junior Emily Briseno (Lee's Summit, Mo., Lee's Summit West) added seven kills and a pair of blocks. Junior Megan Sharpe (Edwardsville, Ill., Edwardsville) moved closer to 1,000 career kills with five on the evening – giving her 991 overall – while also sharing the Bulldog block lead on the night with junior Lauren Radix (Black Earth, Wis., Wisconsin Heights) with four. The Bulldogs out-blocked WU 7-5 for the match.
Both of Truman's setters, Kylie Easlon (Edmond, Okla., Edmond Santa Fe) and Meghan Zimmerman (Papillion, Neb., Gross Catholic), dished out 16 assists, and freshman Abby Moser (Wildwood, Mo., Lafayette) led all players with 18 digs.
Breanna Lewis and Hillary Hughes shared the lead offensively for WU with 12 kills each. Five Lady Blues finished with double-figure digs, led by Kelsey Lewis' 17.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday (Oct. 29) night at 6:00 pm when they host Fort Hays (Kan.) State in a key MIAA matchup.
