Gardner's 20 Leads Bulldogs at Mizzou

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Mo. - - Sophomore Isaac Gardner hit six three-pointers and added an extra field goal for a team-high 20 points, as the Truman men's basketball team fell 87-48 at the University of Missouri in an exhibition game on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs and Tigers played evenly throughout the first six minutes of the contest, as MU held an 8-6 lead at the 14-minute mark of the opening half. However, MU blitzed the Bulldogs with an 18-0 run over the next four minutes, led by a 15-point first-half by 2011 all-Big 12 player Marcus Denmon, before opening up a 45-16 halftime advantage.

However, like in last Thursday's contest at Missouri State, the Bulldogs heated up in the second half and doubled their first-half output, scoring 32 points in the final 20 minutes. For the game, Gardner and junior guard Tom Norton combined for eight of Truman's nine three-pointers as the Bulldogs looked to counter Missouri's interior presence. The Tigers out-rebounded the Bulldogs 44-23 and held a 12-2 edge on the offensive glass.

Norton added eight points, while freshman Mike Carlson added six.

Truman concludes its three-game exhibition slate on Saturday (Nov. 5) morning, when the Bulldogs take on Indiana State at 11:05 a.m. (central). The Sycamores won the Missouri Valley Conference championship in 2010-11 and reached the NCAA tournament.
