ST. CHARLES, Mo. - - A goal in the second minute of overtime by Lindenwood's Hernan Gonzalez proved to be the difference maker on Wednesday night, as the LU Lions snuck past Truman with a 1-0 victory.
Ninety minutes wouldn't prove to be enough for the two squads, as Truman (2-3) took seven shots, with four coming on frame. Senior midfielder Jonathan Brown took a team-high two shots for the 'Dogs in a physical contest. The two teams combined for 36 fouls, with 21 whistled against the visiting Bulldogs.
It wasn't until Gonzalez was able to beat Truman keeper Tyler Knierim in extra time that the outcome was settled, as Lindenwood (1-4) took the first of two matches between the teams this season. They'll meet up again on Oct. 16 in Kirksville.
Next up for Truman is a road contest at Central (Iowa) College this Saturday (Sept. 17) afternoon at 4:00 pm.
