Women's Swimming Competes at Illinois State

Final Results (PDF)
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - -
The 15th-ranked Truman women's swimming team competed in a Friday night dual at Illinois State, falling to the Div. I Redbirds 185-85.

Coming off a big victory last weekend at home against another Div. I program, Western Illinois, the Bulldogs couldn't emulate the results, as ISU broke pool records in the 800 freestyle, and in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Truman does not sponsor diving, essentially surrendering 18 points from the outset against a tough Division I program.

A handful of Bulldogs swam top-2 meets, including a first-place finish in the 200 breast for Abby Hempen, who touched in a time of 2:28.10. Taylor Birsa was right behind her in the race, finishing second at 2:33.10.

Adrian Rudd earned a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 Fly (1:00.51) and 200 Fly (2:11.56), while Casey Jepsen (54.49; 100 Free), Kristi Van Oost (2:12.64; 200 Back) and Allison Harding (5:19.95; 500 Free) also earned second place individual honors. The 800 Free relay team (Peterson, Wilkes, Harding, Van Oost) also finished second with a mark of 8:16.98.

The Bulldogs return to action in two weeks at the Phoenix Fall Classic in Chicago, Ill., from Nov. 16-18.
