Bulldogs, Lions Play to Draw

Box Score | Season Stats

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - - The Truman men's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to four and picked up a point on the road after finishing in a 2-2 draw with Lindenwood on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (3-2-1, 1-0-1 MIAA) dictated tempo early and capitalized on a Tony Luedecke (O'Fallon, Mo., John F. Kennedy) goal in the 10th minute to take an early 1-0 lead. After going into the intermission still ahead by one, Truman pushed the margin to two in the 61st minute when reigning MIAA player of the week Andy Chapman (St. Louis, Mo., Fort Zumwalt South) scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season off a Nick Tolmais assist for a 2-0 lead.

However, that advantage would be short-lived, as the Lions (4-1-2, 1-0-1 MIAA) rebounded with two goals in six minutes, starting in the 70th with the equalizer in the 76th to knot the score at 2-2. The teams would play the final 14 minutes of regulation, plus 20 minutes of overtime, in a dead heat, as the game finished in a draw.

LWU out-shot Truman 21-7 overall but the margin on goal was just 9-6 Lions. Nick Wallner (St. Louis, Mo., SLU High) got the start and allowed both goals while making a pair of saves, while Drew Garrone (Chesterfield, Mo., Lafayette) made five saves in the final 35 minutes of play.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday afternoon when they face Southwest Baptist (1-5, 0-2 MIAA) in Bolivar at 2:00 pm.
