Opening Kickoff:
As the calendar flips to October and the season crosses the halfway point, the 20th-ranked Truman women's soccer team returns to Kirksville this weekend for matches against in-state foes Rockhurst and William Jewell.

The Bulldogs – winners of three straight and owners of a an eight-match unbeaten streak – will have their work cut out of them this weekend against a pair of teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2012 and are off to fast starts again in 2013. Truman will welcome an unbeaten Rockhurst side on Friday at 1:00 pm before bringing in a high-powered William Jewell squad on Sunday at noon.

Truman gets back on its home pitch after posting a six-point weekend in the Hoosier state last Friday and Sunday, earning a 2-0 shutout at Indianapolis on Sept. 27 before closing out Saint Joseph's 2-1 on Sept. 29. Senior Trisha Shoemaker scored a goal in each game, while sophomore Alexis Heffernan added a pair of assists, as the Bulldogs moved into a tie for first place with Quincy at 5-0-1 in league action.

Senior keeper Emily Bozdeck and the Bulldog defense continued to baffle opposing attacks, as Truman brought its goals-against average on the season to 0.42 with five shutouts in eight contests.

Leading the Bulldogs on the sideline is head coach Mike Cannon, who is in his 21st season at the helm of the Truman program. He has a 271-97-40 all-time record at Truman and is the seventh-winningest active coach in NCAA-II history. Cannon has guided the Bulldogs to nine NCAA postseason appearances.

Opponent Quick Glance:
Rockhurst has yet to drop a match in the 2013 season, having won five straight after starting the season 1-0-2. The Hawks have been just as tough defensively as Truman so far this season, allowing just three goals for a goals-against average of 0.38. Offensively, the Hawks have gotten two goals apiece from Brandi Van Booven, Caroline Brandt and Morgan Dahm, while Kasey Lierz holds the team-lead with three assists and five points. Ali Wallner has played all 760 minutes in net for RU, posting five shutouts. The Hawks received votes in this week's NSCAA top-25 poll.

William Jewell will make a stop in Kirksville after playing at Quincy on Friday, with the Cardinals looking to right the ship in the midst of a 1-3-1 stretch after starting the season 4-0. WJC has scored 17 goals on the year but has allowed 15 – using a fast start to get by its opponents (the Cardinals are out-scoring its opposition 14-3 in the first half, while being out-scored 10-3 in the second half). Returning GLVC Offensive Player of the Year Sarah Franklin leads the Cards with four goals and four assists, while Ashley Licata has also found pay-dirt four times.

'Dogs Jump One Spot in Top-25:
The Bulldogs moved up one spot in this week's NSCAA top-25 coaches' poll, landing at No. 20 after its 2-0 weekend in Indiana. Truman is just one of two (No. 10 Quincy) GLVC squads ranked in the top-25, with Rockhurst also receiving votes.

Shoemaker Inching Closer to History:
Senior forward Trisha Shoemaker scored her 19th and 20th career goals while wearing a Truman uniform last weekend, moving her just one away from tying Riley Mahn (2006-09) for 10th on the program's all-time goals scored list. There are four players currently in the top-10 that have scored between 21-27 career goals, meaning a quick burst of tallies could propel the 2011 transfer up the chart quickly.

Bozdeck Also Prominent on Career Lists:
Senior keeper Emily Bozdeck continues to climb all four official keeper career charts, sitting fifth in shutouts (20) and seventh in saves (160), games in goal (46) and keeper minutes (3,796). She does not have the possibility to move up on any chart with action this weekend.

Bulldogs Controlling Pace of Play:
Of the 861-plus minutes of action this season, the Bulldogs have only trailed for 20 minutes and two seconds – just 2.4% of the season. Truman has been tied with its opponents 64.9% (559:34) of the time and has been leading 32.7% (282:03) of the time spent on the field.

No Sophomore Slump for Alexis:
Sophomore forward Alexis Heffernan has shown no signs of a sophomore slump after scoring five goals and totaling 11 points as a freshman in 2012.

Number 20 has started all nine matches this season and leads the team in both assists (4) and points (10), while also sharing the team lead in goals (3) with Shoemaker.

For her career, she has three game-winning goals (of eight total) and has taken 49 shots.

Hunt Finds Double Figures:
Junior midfielder Melanie Hunt is the only current Bulldog to have tallied double-figure assists for her career, sitting at 10 en route to 14 career points. This season, she has a goal and two helpers and has taken 25 shots.

GLVC Standings Beginning to Take Shape:
With 40% of the conference season completed and the halfway point set to be surpassed this weekend, a few distinct lines have begun to be drawn separating the 16 league teams in the race for the conference tournament.

Quincy and Truman sit atop the league table at 5-0-1, followed closely by Rockhurst (4-0-2) and Lewis (4-1-1) with four wins each. A quintet of teams are in a tie for fifth-place with records of 3-2-1, including Southern Indiana, UW-Parkside, Drury, William Jewell and Bellarmine.

McKendree and Missouri-St. Louis have two league wins each, with Indianapolis and Missouri S&T both sitting at 1-3-2. Saint Joseph's and Maryville have no wins but one tie for a point, while Illinois Springfield rounds out the list at 0-6.

At the end of the regular season, the top-eight teams are invited to the GLVC tournament, with quarterfinals taking place on campus sites prior to the semifinals and championship at the highest remaining seed on Nov. 8-10.

The Bulldogs were picked to finish sixth in its first season of Great Lakes Valley Conference action, as announced on August 21st by the league office.

Up Next:
The Bulldogs will spend the University's fall break on a bus in southern Missouri, stopping at Missouri S&T on Friday, Oct. 11 at 5:00 pm before closing the weekend at Drury on Sunday, Oct. 13 at noon.
