KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Tony Luedecke hammered home a penalty kick in the second minute of the second overtime on Sunday afternoon, as the Bulldogs earned a hard-fought 3-2 win against McKendree at the Bulldog Soccer Park.

Luedecke, who stepped to the dot after a McKendree handball in the box defending a Tony Diepenbrock blast, sent the Bulldogs to their first win in four straight double overtime tries covering the last two weeks of the season. Truman (7-4-3, 5-4-3 GLVC) played in its fourth straight 2OT affair, with now having posted a 1-1-2 mark in those contests.

After a slow first half in which Truman out-shot MCK 9-1, it was a gift that put the Bulldogs on the board first in the 49th minute. A Diepenbrock crossed was inadvertently cleared into the back of the net by a Bearcat defender, resulting in an own goal and a one-goal lead for Truman.

MCK would retaliate, however, as in the 77th minute, Cody Fritsche knocked a ball off the bottom of the crossbar and straight down across the end line to even the match at 1-1.

Eight minutes later, the Bulldogs would regain the lead, as Matt Langley converted the back end of an Austin Hayden corner kick to put Truman back on top, 2-1. That lead was short-lived though, as once again, MCK fought back and with 1:53 on the clock found an equalizing goal off the foot of Alex Ridsdale.

After a scoreless first OT session, Luedecke was set up for his heroics in the 102nd to give the Bulldogs a much-needed three points in the conference standings.

For the match, Truman out-shot the Bearcats 19-9, including a 9-4 margin in shots on goal. The chippy contest resulted in 41 combined fouls and 10 yellow cards (seven to MCK).

The Bulldogs now enter a busy stretch of the calendar, with the opener of three matches in five days this Wednesday (Oct. 23) at home against Lindenwood in a non-conference tilt. Kickoff against the Lions is set for 2:00 pm at the Bulldog Soccer Park.
