Bulldogs Score 27 Straight To Remain Perfect In Conference

Box Score

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Senior Dahn Kemp's first career touchdown reception gave the Bulldogs the lead for good as Truman scored 27 unanswered points for a 27-7 victory over Missouri S&T on Saturday afternoon. Truman remains perfect in conference play with a 4-0 mark and clinched their first winning season since 2007 campaign with the victory.

Kurt Loyd set up the go-ahead score with a 29-yard run on a reverse to move the ball from midfield to the Miners' 16 and Conrad Schottel called his own number for a 12-yard gain on the play prior to the score. Kemp ran parallel to the goal line as Schottel faked the handoff and threw to the fullback to give Truman a 13-7 lead in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs forced a three and out on the Miners next possession and Garrett White wasted little time as he reeled off a 79-yard run on the first play from scrimmage following the punt to give the Bulldogs some insurance. It was the second longest run from White this season and gave him 112 yards for the day on just 11 carries.

Truman added another score in the fourth quarter following a Miner fumble. Schottel plunged from a yard out to cap off an eight-play 31-yard drive early in the fourth quarter.

Missouri S&T took the early lead following a methodical 16-play 83-yard drive in the first quarter that consumed nearly seven minutes. The Miners converted on a pair of long third downs to keep the drive moving and Zenel Hudson scored from a yard out to give S&T the 7-0 advantage. It was the first time Truman had trailed in four Great Lakes Valley Conference games this season.

The Bulldogs could not take advantage of the wind in the second quarter and had to settle for a pair of Derek Koon field goals to close the gap to 7-6. They were the 47th and 48th of his career and came from 24 and 30 yards respectively.

Truman defense held S&T to just 139 yards of total offense after the 83-yard scoring drive.  In fact, both teams had just over 100 yards of total offense at halftime while Truman finished with 306 for the day.

Schottel completed 16-of-28 passes for 111 yards with Chico Orlando and Brett Nagel each catching five passes apiece.

The Miners were led by Peter Simpson, who completed just 12-of-32 passing for 130 yards and a host of running backs led by Hudson that managed just 34 yards on eight carries.

Jeremey Dockery had two of the Bulldogs three fumble recoveries with T.J. Fine grabbing the other one while Austin Zoda had the Bulldogs lone interception.

Truman will head to Kentucky Wesleyan next Saturday for their first encounter with the Panthers in GLVC play. Kentucky Wesleyan was winless on the season heading into Saturday night's game at the University of Indianapolis. The Bulldogs and Greyhounds entered the week atop the GLVC standings without a loss. Kickoff from Owensboro, Ky. is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
