Swimming Splits in Top-25 Dual Battle with Lewis

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - In a battle of top-25 programs in the CollegeSwimming.com women's and men's Div. II polls, the No. 4 Truman women dominated No. 8 Lewis, 165-96, while the 8th-ranked Lewis men topped No. 24 Truman, 187-74.

Five different Bulldog women logged multiple first-place finishes in the Saturday morning meet at Pershing's Natatorium, led by three apiece by Hannah Nicks and Beth Eyanson. Each competed as part of the first-place 400 Medley Relay squad that touched in 4:03.02, with Nicks finishing first in both backstroke events (100, 200) and Eyanson doing the same in the two butterfly events (100, 200).

Both Abby Hempen and Casey Jepsen - the final two members of Truman's 400 Medley Relay squad - each picked up additional first-place finishes in the 200 Breast (Hempen) and 400 Free Relay (Jepsen), while Evyn Spencer swam the third leg of the 400 Free Relay first-place team and earned a first-place finish in the 50 Free.

Other first place finishers on the day included Emily Ponte and Bailey Peterson of the 400 Free Relay unit, Brynn Guardado in the 500 Free, and Ashley Shanel in the 400 IM.

On the men's side, Neil Girmus notched a first-place finish in the 50 Free, hitting in 22.06 to earn nine points towards Truman's final team total.

Both Bulldog squads will take the rest of the fall semester and holiday season off before returning to the pool the weekend of Jan. 17-18 for meets against Missouri S&T(road, men-only) and Missouri State (home, both).
