Tigers Grab Extra Inning Win To Take Series On Sunday

HAYS, Kan. – The Fort Hays (Kan.) State Tigers defeated the Truman Baseball team 7-6 in 10 innings on Sunday to take the series two games to one. The Bulldogs return home for a scheduled seven-game home stretch beginning on Tuesday against Lincoln (Mo.) at 1:00 p.m.

Paul Trenhaile had a big series for the 'Dogs hitting .636 (7-of-11) while knocking a pair of doubles and scoring four times. Corbin Williams and Chris Zrostlik each drove in four runs apiece during the three-game set.

Trenhaile and Zrostlik went a combined 7-of-8 in the opener while Logan Siegler got the win and Tyler Spencer picked up the clutch save in the one-run victory.
 
The Bulldogs plated two runs in the top of the first only to be answered with two by the Tigers in the bottom of the inning. Blake Marino put Truman on top with an RBI single to center that scored Trenhaile who began a two-out rally.
 
Mike Monfre belted a home run to right that put the Bulldogs up 5-2 but the Tigers scored two-out runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to pull within one.
 
The Bulldogs sent 10 hitters to the dish in the sixth. Zak Larkin brought in Will Nader on a bunt, Corbin Williams drove in Jordan Howe and Zrostlik bringing in two more on a double to right.  Truman left the bases loaded.
 
Sielger retired the leadoff hitter in the sixth but a single and hit by pitch along with two errors in the inning brought Fort Hays within one. Siegler got out of the inning by a 6-4-3 double play with the bases loaded.
Truman went in order in the top of the seventh and Spencer worked around a leadoff single by getting Jordan Miller to fly out to center and Clayton Garland looking at strike three for save number two on the year.

Clayton Garland avenged for his strike out looking to end game one by going 4-of-5 in the nightcap as the Tigers scored five runs in the fifth and eight in the seventh to win 15-5.
 
Like game one, Truman struck with two runs in the first, both with two outs and the Tigers responded with two of their own in the bottom of the inning.
 
Both starting pitchers put up zeros the next three innings until the fifth. Will Nader singled and stole second before coming in on a RBI single from Jordan Howe. Howe would steal and later score on a wild pitch to put the Bulldogs up 4-2.
 
The first four hitters for the Tigers reached in the bottom of the fifth then following a sac fly, three more base hits chased Truman's Jarrett Eiskina from the mound.  Mark Roberts got the last two outs in the fifth and put up a scoreless sixth before the Tigers were able to shorten the nine-inning game with an eight spot in the seventh.
 
Horace Johnson led off with a solo home run. Johnson would bat again in the seventh with an RBI double as the Tigers sent 11 hitters to the plate and collected eight of their 18 hits during the game.

Corbin Williams went 3-for-5 with three RBIs but the Tigers took advantage of a pair of 10th inning errors for the walk off win in the series finale.
 
The Bulldogs struck first following a pair of one-out third inning walks. Williams doubled in Zak Larkin after Jordan Howe stole home for a 2-0 lead.
 
The Tigers got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Chris Santoscoy doubled and scored on a single by Sam Thornton.
 
Shane Wade hit a two-run homer in the fourth to put the Tigers up 3-2 but Williams tied it on a single to center bringing in Howe in the fifth.
 
Truman added three in the sixth when Blake Marino led off with a solo home run and Will Nader and Williams each got RBI singles.
 
The Tigers tallied three of their own in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game which remained that way until the 10th.
 
Ryan Busboom led off with a single, was advanced on a sac bunt. Following an intentional walk, a pair of errors by the Bulldogs on a grounder by Jay Sanders allowed the winning run to score from second base.
 
Michael Edlefson pitched five innings in relief to get the win while Taylor Brooks was tagged for the loss in relief of Tim Lee.
