KIRKSVILLE - - Visiting Lewis (Ill.) University broke through with a free kick goal in the 106th minute and handed the Truman men's soccer team a 2-1 defeat at the Bulldog Soccer Park on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (3-2, 1-2 GLVC) played down a man for the final 30 minutes of action and nearly came through with their own game-winner right away in the second overtime, but an Ian Abundis header was narrowly saved by the Flyers keeper to extend the match.

In the 106th minute, Truman was whistled for a foul approximately 25-yards outside of its penalty area, setting up the dramatic finish for Lewis, who improved to 3-0-2 overall (2-0-1 GLVC) on the season. Cristhian Ramirez converted the game-winning free kick, keeping the Flyers unbeaten on the season.

The Bulldogs dictated play at the outset and were eventually rewarded with a penalty kick after a deflection off Tony Luedecke hit a Lewis defender in the arm in the box. Nick Tolmais calmly scored – his third PK goal of the season and fifth total tally of 2013 – to put the 'Dogs on top 1-0 in the 20th minute.

From there, the Flyers began to add pressure, eventually knotting the score in the 70th minute off a heel flick by defender Michael Pyle.

For the match, Lewis out-shot the Bulldogs 16-8 overall and 7-3 on goal, while also taking 11 corners to Truman's three. Garrone made five saves for Truman in net.

The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when they host Wisconsin-Parkside at the Bulldog Soccer Park. UWP entered a Friday night affair at Quincy with a 2-1-1 overall record, 1-1 in the GLVC.
