KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - The Truman men's soccer team built a 4-0 lead and never looked back in handing Upper Iowa a 4-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Park.

Chris Mansfield put Truman on the board in the 27th minute, taking a loose ball in the middle and ripping a shot from 30-yards out. UIU keeper Jordan Bell got his hands on the attempt, but misplayed the shot and allowed Mansfield's try to cross the end line for a 1-0 Bulldog lead.

After Truman carried its 1-0 lead into the intermission, Zach Hollstrom notched his second goal in as many games at Truman in the 52nd minute, finishing a Nick Tolmais feed for a 2-0 edge. Austin Hayden then finished a Tony Diepenbrock helper that bounced off a UIU defender in the 75th minute to put the game out of reach.

The squads traded penalty kicks in the 82nd (Tolmais) and 85th (UIU's Rhys Williams) to reach the 4-1 final.

The Bulldogs scored 15 goals during the first weekend of action, leading to a pair of victories against two Iowa squads. Meanwhile, Drew Garrone made five saves in net, allowing just the penalty shot to break up his clean sheet.

Truman out-shot UIU 17-13 overall and 8-6 on goal, leading into next Friday's GLVC-opener against Maryville (Mo.) at 3:30 p.m. in Kirksville.
