Bears Edge 'Dogs in Final Home Duals

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Casey Jepsen and Bailey Peterson each brought home first-place finishes on Senior Day, while Abby Hempen and Evyn Spencer also earned top spots for the Bulldog women as both Truman swimming teams fell in home dual action to Missouri State on Saturday afternoon.
 
Seven seniors for the Bulldog swimming programs – Sam Collier and Ricky Zott on the men's side along with Beth Eyanson, Nichole Imhof, Margaux Kent, Jepsen and Peterson for the women – competed in their final home events against the Division I Bears in the Pershing Natatorium. The Bulldog women dropped a 134-119 decision to MSU, while the men fell by a score of 156-93.
 
Jepsen took first as an individual in the 200 Free with a time of 1:54.82 as well as part of the 200 Free Relay squad that edged MSU by .06 in the day's final event. Jepsen swam the first leg for the 'Dogs in that event, with Spencer, Alison Strickler and Peterson completing the first-place finish for the purple and white.
 
Hempen, meanwhile, came home first (2:23.04) in the 200 Breaststroke and second (1:06.86) in the 100 Breaststroke to log 13 points towards the Bulldog team score. Spencer added a first-place finish in the 200 IM with a mark of 2:09.52.
 
On the men's side, seven different Bulldogs logged second-place finishes on the day.
 
Both Truman teams will take nearly a full month off prior to the inaugural Great Lakes Valley Conference championships, held Feb. 12-15 in Crawfordsville, Ind.
