Men's Soccer Recap: Rockhurst 1, Truman 0

KANSAS CITY - - The Truman men's soccer team battled long-time rival Rockhurst on Sunday afternoon on the turf at RU's Bourke Field, but a 71st minute goal off a corner kick by the host Hawks was the difference in a 1-0 Rockhurst victory.

RU's Michael Paranisi scored his fourth goal of the season with 19:50 to play off a corner kick ball by Evan Craig to put the Hawks (6-3, 6-2 GLVC) on top 1-0. The Bulldogs (4-5-1, 3-4-1 GLVC) would have a flurry of opportunities down the stretch, as the purple and white won two corner kicks and had a pair of shots sent wide. In addition, RU stopped a Truman penalty shot try in the 87th minute to keep the Bulldogs off the board.

Overall, the Bulldogs were out-shot 19-8 by Rockhurst, but the Hawks' edge in shots on goal was a mere 5-3. Senior keeper Drew Garrone posted four saves in net, while junior John Lee came off the bench to lead the Bulldogs with two shots on the offensive end.

The Bulldogs return to Kirksville on Friday afternoon to face Saint Joseph's in a Homecoming weekend opener. Kickoff against the Pumas (1-8-1, 1-6-1 GLVC) is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Bulldog Soccer Park.
