Swimming Recap: Bulldogs Snap Pool Records in Lewis Tri-Meet

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - - The Truman swimming teams made their lasting marks on the Lewis (Ill.) University pool on Saturday afternoon, as the Bulldog women broke three pool records en route to a pair of dual victories against Lewis and Lake Forest. The Truman men picked up a split on the afternoon.

The women's 400 medley relay squad of Grace Fodor, Abby Hempen, Evyn Spencer, and Jamie Fitzpatrick opened the day with a pool record time of 4:00.34 for a first-place finish. Both Fodor and Hempen would again ink the LU record books later in the day, as Fodor brought home first in the 100 Back with a time of 58.80, while Hempen touched first in the 100 Breast with a mark of 1:06.00.

The Bulldog women would take 11 first-place finishes on the day, as Jasmine Roghair (500 Free & 1000 Free), Nikki Sisson (100 Free & 200 Free), Spencer (50 Free & 100 Fly), Hempen (200 IM) added individual first-place finishes, while the 400 Free Relay squad of Fitzpatrick, Hannah Nicks, Sisson, and Alison Strickler led a 1-2 Bulldog punch in the final event with a 3:41.14 time.

Strickler, meanwhile, added two second-place finishes (50 Free & 100 Free), with Nicks adding a second-place touch in the 100 Back. The Bulldog women defeated Lewis 149-56 and Lake Forest by a 163-40 score.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs reeled in seven second-place touches, highlighted by both the 400 Medley Relay (Riley Brown, Neil Girmus, Will Shanel, and Matt Phillips) and 400 Free Relay (Tim Senholtz, Alec Morgan, George Dowdy, and Etienne Thro). Joel Schawe (1000 Free), Morgan (200 Free), Shanel (100 Fly, 500 Free), and Girmus (100 Breast) each picked up silver spots, with Thro adding a third-place notch in the 100 Fly just behind Shanel.

The Bulldog men fell to Lewis by a 142-63 score but defeated Lake Forest 136-69.

Both Truman teams return to action in two weekends, returning to the Chicago area for the Northwestern University TYR Cup in Evanston, Ill. The Big Ten's Wildcats host a three-day event from Nov. 21-23.
