Diamond Notes: Bulldogs Head To Indianapolis This Weekend

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Baseball teams games at the University of Indianapolis have been moved up a day to avoid possible weather on Sunday. The doubleheader will begin at 1:00 p.m. (EDT) on Friday and conclude with a twinbill on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (EDT).

Truman vs. Indianapolis
Series Format: The conference series format will be followed with game one on day one being a nine-inning contest followed by a seven-inning game. Day two begins with a seven-inning game followed by the nine-inning game.
 
Series History: This is the first ever meeting between the Bulldogs and the Greyhounds on the diamond.
 
Indianapolis Last Time Out: The Greyhounds took three of four from Missouri-St. Louis last weekend on the road. The Greyhounds took Friday's doubleheader by identical 3-2 scores while the Tritons took game one on Saturday 4-3 before UIndy grabbed the finale 4-1.   
 
About the Greyhounds: Indianapolis is 7-9 on the season and 3-1 in the GLVC East Division…hits .252 as a team through 16 games with six home runs…three homers are from Zach Jacobs (.345)…leading hitter is Alex Ritchie (.400)…team ERA of 4.03…Matthew Kaplanis and Aaron Gregory have two wins apiece. Kaplanis has a 1.44 ERA in four starts and one complete game…picked up one first-place vote and was fourth in the East Division in the GLVC Preseason Baseball Coach's Poll…finished with a 27-20 overall record and a 19-17 GLVC mark last season but missed the postseason tournament by one game…Gary Vaught is in his 20th season as coach of the Greyhounds.

GLVC Hitter of the Week:
Jarod Hahn was named the GLVC Hitter of the Week after hitting safely in seven of his eight games last week, while five were multi-hit outings.  He was 14-for-23 (.609) from the plate with 10 runs batted in, three doubles, seven runs scored and a home run. He had a .870 slugging percentage and with three walks and three HBPs, and boasted a .690 on-base percentage.  Hahn was 4-for-6 in two non-conference games at Bellarmine last Monday, was 5-for-7 in last Tuesday's doubleheader at Southwest Baptist, and 5-for-10 while helping the Bulldogs to a 3-1 record against UW-Parkside to start conference play. 
 
Hahn becomes the first Bulldogs to earn GLVC Baseball Player of the Week honors and first offensive player to earn a conference weekly award since Josh Rubin won the MIAA Hitter of the Week in April of 2006.
 
Conference Standings:
After the first weekend of conference play, Truman sits in a three-way tie atop the GLVC West Division with a 3-1 record. They are joined by William Jewell and Rockhurst.
 
The first two weeks of conference games are cross-divisional while division games begin March 29.
 
The top three teams in each division plus the next two best winning percentages will earn trips to the GLVC Baseball Tournament in Evansville, Ind.

The Bulldogs are fourth in the GLVC in hitting with a .281 batting average, second in runs scored with 77 and first in the conference in stolen bases (32) and attempts (38).
 
Paul Trenhaile leads the league in hitting with a .500 batting average going 22-of-44 and in RBIs with 14.
 
Corban Williams leads the league in stolen bases with 11 and in attempts with 11.

  • Mark Roberts leads the team with a 1.35 ERA and has a 2-0 record in three starts. Roberts complete-game shutout of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday was the first by the Bulldog since Bret Gerstner pitched one against Washburn (Kan.) on March 17, 2002.
  • Cody Gardner (6) and Alex Hoffman (5) have been the workhorses of the Bulldog pen. Gardner has a 1.50 ERA and a 1-1 record with a save in six innings of relief work while Hoffman is also 1-1 with one start in five appearances.
  • Paul Trenhaile and Jarod Hahn went over 100 career hits last weekend. Trenhaile has a career .356 batting average and 105 hits while Hahn has a .308 career mark and 104 hits.
  • Trenhaile has nine multi-hit games, is on a four-game hitting streak and has reached base in 13 straight games.
  • Five Bulldogs have started all 13 games with Zak Larkin, Paul Trenhaile, Blake Deaton, Corban Williams and Jarod Hahn. Kyle Smith and Will Nader have started 11 games apiece.
  • Zak Larkin has 37 stolen bases for his career, eight this season to vault into sixth on Truman's career stolen base charts. Larkin is one back of Mike Kubinski, two behind Kenny Swanson and three behind Nate Mudd. The career stolen base leader is Adam Davis with 51.
  • Corban Williams is a perfect 11-of-11 in swipes this season and 22-of-26 in his two-year career. The single-season stolen base record is 30 by Brad Jenkins set in 1996 with Adam Davis' 20 in 2004 second.

Truman returns home for a non-conference doubleheader with Southwest Baptist on Wednesday, March 26 then will play at Missouri S&T for a GLVC Divisional doubleheader on March 29-30.
