KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – Paul Trenhaile hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of 14th inning to score Will Nader to give the Truman Baseball team a doubleheader sweep over rival Quincy (Ill.) University on Wednesday. The Bulldogs won game one 9-2 and the nightcap 6-5. They host Missouri-St. Louis in another key GLVC West Division series starting on Friday.

Nader was 4-for-7 on the day with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored, including the game winner in the 14th. It was the longest game for the Bulldogs since a 2009 game against Lincoln (Mo.) University.

Truman had some records set on the afternoon. As a team, they swiped seven bases on the day to set a new single-season team record of 81 on the season. Zak Larkin had three steals on the day to tie Adam Davis for the Bulldog career record with 51 and Blake Deaton set a single-game record with 11 assists in the marathon 14-inning affair.

Game 1 Recap: The Bulldog offense provided the run support for Cody Gardner to earn his fourth win of the season in a 9-2 victory in the opener. Gardner tossed six innings, allowing five hits and one unearned run to get the win.

The Hawks took a lead in the first when Kenny May was hit on a two-strike pitch, advanced on a passed ball and came in on a groundout by Mitchell Broughton.

Jarod Hahn and Chris Zrostlik singled to start the second with Hahn tying the game by scoring on a bloop hit down the right field line of the bat of Dave Gambino. Blake Deaton scored Zrostlik on a sac fly to center. Zak Larkin beat out a double-play allowing Gambino to score the games third run.

Deaton singled in Zrostlik for an unearned run in the fourth.

Truman tacked on three more in the fourth with Nader scoring on a wild pitch, Corban Williams scoring from third on a fielding error and Trenhaile coming in on a two-out single by Zrostlik.

The Bulldogs added two more in the sixth while the Hawks got one back in the seventh.

Game 2 Recap: Will Nader capped off his big day by scoring on Paul Trenhaile's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 14th inning. Trenhaile lifted a 2-2 pitch to shallow left. Zach Knese made the catch and fired home only to have the ball hit the back of Nader, allowing him to score without a play.

Truman went up 2-0 in the second with Nader knocking in Dave Gambino on a hit to right and Zak Larkin scoring Blake Deaton on a sac fly.

The Hawks added one in the third and tied the game in the fourth.

The Bulldogs retook the lead with Nader drawing a bases loaded walk on a full count but a double-play and a fly out ended the threat.

Quincy struck with two runs in the fifth with Knese doubling in one and another scoring on a wild pitch.

Truman responded with two of their own off relief pitcher Jake Wehde. Deaton grounded out to bring in Jarod Hahn and Nader singled in Zrostlik to put Truman back on top 5-4.

The lead was short lived when Mitchell Broughton tied the game in the sixth with a single to left with one out but Austin Olendorff started a double play to end the inning with the go-ahead run at third.

From that point on it was zeroes across the scoreboard.

Quincy hit into double plays in both the seventh and eighth innings while Truman hit into twin killings in the seventh and 12th innings.

The Bulldogs turned their fifth double play and second started by Trenhaile in the 14th to erase a one-out single.

Nader led off the bottom of the inning with an infield hit, Zak Larkin sacrificed him up to second and Corban Williams beat out an infield hit to move Nader up to third.

Williams allowed the Bulldogs to stay out of the double play by swiping second while also taking over the team lead in steals with 23 on the season.

Trenhaile battled Quincy reliever Matt Fishman to a 2-2 count before getting the fly ball to score Nader from third.

Fishman was the fourth Quincy hurler and went six and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits but took his first loss of the season. Spencer followed Olendorff, Tyler McCreary and starter Logan Moose to the hill for his third win with five innings of solid relief work.
