KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Missouri-St. Louis Tritons held on to win Saturday's opener 3-2 then completed the sweep with a 7-3 victory to take three of four against the Truman Bulldogs in a key Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division tilt. Truman returns to action on Tuesday in a non-conference doubleheader against Lincoln (Mo.).

The Bulldogs were outhit 22-12 on Saturday with Truman's Corban Williams having five in seven at bats with three stolen bases.

Michael Budka hit .533 for the Tritons with three doubles, a pair of home runs and seven RBIs for the entire four-game series.

Game 1 Recap: The Tritons got on the scoreboard early with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning off of starter Mark Roberts.

Will Nader's two-out single to left tied the game in the second scoring Dave Gambino and Wyatt Fones.

However, UMSL struck right back with a three-run home run off the bat of Michael Budka.

The Tritons added three more in the fourth to open things up as Tyler Bunge doubled to right and a double-steal with Bunge coming home gave UMSL an 8-2 lead.

Truman got a pair back in the fourth with Gambino hitting his first Truman home run and Nader singling to right. However, the Bulldogs left the bases loaded when Corban Williams and Paul Trenhaile struck out.

Roberts departed after four and Jake Bennett gave up a first-pitch single to Jose Ortiz for a run in the fifth. UMSL scored four times in the eighth to take a 13-4 lead before Truman scored twice in the bottom of the ninth.

Zach Standefer pitched seven innings to earn his third win on the season.

Game 2 Recap: Alex Hoffman pitched his second complete-game and first shutout as the Bulldogs downed the Tritons 6-0 to even the series at a win apiece. Hoffman scattered five hits while striking out five Triton hitters en route to his fourth win of the season.

The Bulldogs got to the UMSL ace Jonathan Rosario early. The first three hitters singled, including Paul Trenhaile's RBI hit to left scoring Zak Larkin.  Following a sac fly from Blake Deaton, Dave Gambino drew a bases loaded walk and Kyle Smith was hit by a pitch for the second and third runs of the frame.

The Tritons put two on in the second but Shane Brinker was called out on strikes and Jose Ortiz lined out to Will Nader in left.

In the bottom of the second, Larkin led off by being hit with a pitch then made Truman history by stealing his 52nd career base to become Truman's all-time steals leader.

Hoffman retired 10 straight before walking Ortiz on a full-count but then picked him off first base to end the fifth.

The Tritons left two more on base in the sixth before Truman took advantage of a pair of UMSL errors in the bottom of the inning. Trenhaile got the clutch double off the right field fence scoring Larkin and Corban Williams and would later score on a single by Jarod Hahn.

Rosario allowed six runs, three earned while giving up eight hits in five and two-thirds innings to take his second loss of the season.

Game 3 Recap: Ben Klaustermeier retired 12 straight Bulldogs after Truman took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and Missouri-St. Louis scored three times in the second to win 3-2 in Saturday's opener.

Klaustermeier threw just 74 pitches in his first start of the season to earn the complete-game victory as he allowed two runs on five hits and two strikeouts.

Corban Williams scored the first run of the game on a sac fly from Jarod Hahn but the first five Tritons reached to start the second with RBI singles by Cody Garlington, Chris Mathes and Joe Wieczkowski to take a 3-0 lead.

Cody Gardner got out of the jam by striking out the next three hitters leaving runners at second and third.

Truman could not capitalize with Klaustermeier in control until the sixth. Williams singled and swiped second and Paul Trenhaile knocked him in with a base knock up the middle. Chris Zrostlik singled with two outs to move Trenhaile into scoring position but Dave Gambino lined out to left to end the inning.

The Bulldogs went in order to end the game in the seventh.

Game 4 Recap: The Tritons pounded out 17 hits with a three-run home run by Michael Budka capping off a four-run third inning to break things open.
