KIRKSVILLE - - Two second half goals – one from the penalty dot and one off a long free kick – kept the Truman men's soccer team perfect on the year, as the Bulldogs earned a 2-0 victory against Illinois Springfield on Friday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Park.

After outshooting the Prairie Stars (2-1, 0-1 GLVC) by an 8-1 count in the first 45 minutes, it took less than six minutes into the second half for the Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0 GLVC) to finally break through. UIS committed a foul in the box, giving junior Corey Nolte his second penalty kick goal in as many games to put Truman up 1-0.

Then, just more than three minutes later, another UIS foul set Truman up with a free kick from just outside of 40 yards out from goal. Junior John Lee floated a ball into the six-yard box, which deflected off sophomore Zach Hollstrom and into the net to give the Bulldogs a two goal edge.

Senior Drew Garrone and the Bulldog defense made it stick from there, as the keeper posted three second half saves – including back-to-back tries from steps away by UIS' Tyler Stenzel in the 85th minute – to preserve the team's second consecutive shutout to open the year.

The Bulldogs out-shot UIS 14-8 for the match, including a 6-3 margin in shots on goal. Truman earned eight corner kicks overall to just three for the Prairie Stars.

Truman returns to action on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. against Southern Indiana at the Bulldog Soccer Park. USI takes a 1-1 overall record into its Friday night match at Quincy before trekking to Kirksville for Sunday's contest.
