KIRKSVILLE - - Corey Nolte's conversion from the penalty dot in the 70th minute was all the Truman men's soccer team got, and needed, in its 2014 season-opener, as the Bulldogs blanked Graceland (Iowa) 1-0 at the Bulldog Soccer Park.

As Truman (1-0) built more and more pressure on the Yellowjacket (1-2) back line throughout the second half, GU finally broke down and committed an undisputed foul in the box with 20:59 to play. Nolte then stepped up and beat the keeper for the 1-0 lead.

From there, the Bulldog defense held strong, as GU took just one shot in the second half, compared to nine for the Truman attack. Drew Garrone made three saves on the day, while Truman took seven corner kicks to four for Graceland.

Truman has now won back-to-back home openers; albeit in completely different fashion, as last year's squad pounded home 11 goals against Iowa Wesleyan on Sept. 6, 2013.

Head coach Duke Cochran's squad will return to the field on Friday (Sept. 12) afternoon at 3:30 p.m. for its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener against Illinois Springfield. That match will follow the Bulldog women against the Prairie Stars, who are set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Bulldog Soccer Park.
