Bulldogs Blaze Dragons to Open Regional Crossover

AURORA, Ill. – It took the Truman volleyball team a set to get its feet wet, but once the Bulldogs shook off opening-match jitters, the Bulldogs cruised in sets two, three, and four to pick up a 3-1 victory against Tiffin in the opening match of the 2015 Midwest Regional Crossover, hosted at the Great Lakes Center.
 
Truman, who improved to 12-6 overall with the win, will play again later Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Ashland. The Eagles improved to 13-5 on the season after defeating Indianapolis 3-0 in its opening match on Friday.
 
The Bulldogs hit just .192 in the opening set, while Tiffin (8-8) connected at a .458 rate to open with a 25-18 decision. However, from there, it was all Truman, as the Bulldogs hit .374 during the final three sets to pick up 25-15, 25-17, 25-21 set wins in the final three.
 
Individually, outside hitters Kayla Bastian and Bailey Mason each tallied an 11-kill, two-error offensive line, with Bastian pairing 11 digs for a double-double. Those two were half of Truman's four who finished with double-figure points, as senior Abby Heise led all Bulldogs with 13 points on five kills, four aces, six blocks (two solo), and a .294 hitting line. Kassi Schroeder added 11 digs, while Kayleen Green finished with 19 assists and 10 digs.
