Swimming Kicks Off 2015-16 at Show-Me Showdown

COLUMBIA, Mo. - - The Truman men's and women's swimming teams lifted the lid on the 2015-16 winter sports season on Friday night, as the Bulldog teams competed at the University of Missouri in the Tigers' annual Show-Me Showdown, in which multiple schools from the state of Missouri compete.

The highlight of the night for the Bulldogs came in the women's 200 Free Relay, where the quartet of Nikki Sisson, Evyn Spencer, Allison Strickler, and Jamie Fitzpatrick set an NCAA-II B-cut time of 1:36.42 en route to winning the event. The Bulldogs got to the wall first, defeating the top two Mizzou teams, as well as the top squad from perennial Div. II front-runner Drury, Lindenwood, St. Louis University, and Missouri State.

In addition, the Bulldog women also finished second in the 400 Free Relay to close the night, hitting the touchpad as the fastest NCAA-II team in the water, as Spencer, Fitzpatrick, Sisson, and Kortney Betz finished with a time of 3:33.80.

Sisson had a third-place individual finish in the 50 Free with a near- B-cut time of 24.10, while Spencer (58.31) and Libby Opfer (58.38) finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 100 Fly. The Bulldog women - when omitting the diving portion in which Truman does not compete - finished second overall at the event behind multiple top-10 performances.

Meanwhile, on the men's side, JT Thayer had the Bulldogs' top individual performance of the evening, carrying home a seventh-place finish in the 500 Free with a mark of 4:43.89 in his first collegiate event.

Both Bulldog teams will return to the pool for two weeks' worth of practice before the first home events of the season, taking place on Oct. 16-17 against Illinois State (women only) and Lindenwood.
