Men's Soccer Blanks UIS; Cochran Earns No. 100

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - The Truman men's soccer team picked up a goal in each half, and head coach Duke Cochran earned his 100th career victory in the team's 2-0 win against Illinois Springfield on Friday afternoon at the Bulldog Soccer Park.

On a wet, cloudy day in Kirksville, the Bulldogs (7-9, 6-7 GLVC) wasted little time in putting the first number up on the scoreboard, when Nate Luebbert slipped a pass through the UIS (4-10-2, 2-9-2 GLVC) defense to a streaking Trevor Kaufmann who buried a shot into the corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. It was Kaufmann's fourth goal of the season and was the first assist of 2015 for Luebbert.

The Bulldogs then padded their lead with 16 minutes and change to play, when Craig McLaurine sent a corner kick directly to the head of Zach Hollstrom, who finished for his first goal of the year. McLaurine earned his first assist of the year as well on the play.

Truman out-shot UIS 12-5 on the day and 5-0 on goal, despite the Prairie Stars earning seven corner kicks to Truman's six.

Already the all-time winningest coach in Truman men's soccer history, Cochran logged win career victory No. 100 with Friday's win, as he improved his career record to 100-79-16 in his 11th season along the Bulldog sidelines. He has led the Bulldogs to five 10+ win seasons and recently surpassed former head coach Alf Bilbao's previous record of 96 wins for the most as a Truman men's soccer head coach.

The Bulldogs, who entered the day one game back of eighth-place in the race for the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament, earned a much-needed win against the Prairie Stars entering Sunday's Senior Day matchup against McKendree. The Bearcats entered the day also at 5-7 in league play and will play at Quincy on Friday night prior to Sunday's 12 p.m. match in Kirksville.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early on Sunday, as the Bulldogs will recognize seniors Corey Nolte, John Lee, Jordan Verbanaz, and Matt McMillin at 11:50 a.m. prior to kickoff.
