Volleyball earns sweep at Saint Joseph's

RENSSELAER, Ind. - - Junior Kayla Bastian and freshman Bailey Mason put away nine kills apiece, while three other Bulldogs totaled six kills each to help the Truman  volleyball team pick up a 3-0 sweep at Saint Joseph's on Friday night.
 
Truman (14-10, 7-5 GLVC) had to edge out the Pumas (7-16, 2-10 GLVC) in the first two sets, holding on for 27-25 and 25-23 decisions, before pulling away in the third set to a tune of 25-19. For the match, the Bulldogs hit .210 with 41 kills on 105 attack attempts, while, after a strong first set, SJC was held to just a .120 hitting line with 34 kills and 22 errors on 100 swings. Both teams served up six aces, but the Bulldogs won the blocking battle with 10 to the Pumas' seven.
 
Mason scored a team-high 13.5 points on nine kills, three aces, and three block assists. Senior Ali Patterson also reached double-figures in points with 10, coming behind six kills (.308%), four block assists and two aces. Bastian finished one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and a team-high 12 digs, while senior Abby Heise capped her night with six kills, a team-best 22 assists, and four block assists. Senior Emilee Walters' six block assists were also a match-high.
 
Bridget Krasowski led all players with 16 points (11 kills, five aces) to lead SJC.
 
Truman returns to action less than 18 hours from the conclusion on Friday night's match, as the Bulldogs head south to Indianapolis to battle UIndy on Saturday (Oct. 31) at 2 p.m. CT. The Greyhounds are now 11-14 on the season (7-5 GLVC) after a 3-0 sweep of Quincy on Friday night.
