Bulldogs record 14 blocks but fall at UIndy

INDIANAPOLIS - - The Truman volleyball team out-blocked Indianapolis 14-4, however, the host Greyhounds totaled 67 kills in four sets to just 45 for the Bulldogs to deal Truman a 3-1 defeat on Saturday afternoon.
 
With the weekend split following last night's 3-0 win at Saint Joseph's, the Bulldogs now sit at 14-11 on the season (7-6 GLVC) with five matches left on the 2015 regular season schedule. Four of those five will be at home, beginning with next Friday (Nov. 6) night's 7 p.m. showdown with Wisconsin-Parkside.
 
After the host 'Hounds took a back-and-forth opening set in extra points at 28-26, UIndy went into the break up 2-0 after posting a 25-21 win in set two. Truman rebounded in set three with a 25-23 win by holding UIndy to its lowest set hitting percentage of the match at .133, but UIndy landed the final punch in the fourth set at 25-18.
 
Truman hit .164 for the match with 46 kills and 19 errors on 165 total attacks, with UIndy countering with 67 kills and 25 errors on 184 swings for a .228 mark.  The Bulldogs served up eight aces but were out-dug by eight at 90-82.
 
Senior Ali Patterson led the Bulldogs with 15.5 total points, totaling eight kills, seven block assists, and four service aces, while freshman Bailey Mason's 10 kills led all Bulldogs en route to her 13 point day (two aces, two block assists, eight digs). Junior Bailey O'Drobinak hit .316 with seven kills on 19 swings.
 
Both of Truman's setters – senior Abby Heise and junior Kayleen Green – finished with assist-dig double-doubles, while freshman Claire Wandrey paced all Bulldogs with 19 digs.
 
Kate Bontrager led UIndy with 20 kills, and Hailey Brown paced all players with 25 digs.
