Bulldogs grab road win at Upper Iowa

Box Score (PDF)

FAYETTE, Iowa - - The Truman men's basketball team pulled off a clutch road victory on Saturday night, as the Bulldogs iced the game from the foul line in an 84-80 win at Upper Iowa University.

The Bulldogs (3-1) hit 15-of-20 free throws in the second half to pick up the four point win, with the purple and white shooting 25-of-38 from the line in the game. Five players finished in double-figures for Truman, with Connor Erickson's game- and career-high 21 points pacing the team. Cory Myers added 19 points, a career-high nine rebounds, and five assists, while Andrew Vander Zwaag (14 points), Jake Velky (12 points), and Kyle Kanaskie (10 points) all added double-figure points.

Truman led by as many as 17 early in the second half, but a 25-6 run midway through the half brought the Peacocks (3-4) back and into the lead with 10:39 to play. However, after trailing 70-69 with just more than three minutes left, the Bulldogs rattled off eight in a row to take a 77-70 lead with 1:57 to play. From there, it became a free throw contest vs. a three-point shooting contest, with Truman making enough at the line to keep UIU at bay and picking up the four-point win.

The Bulldogs shot 45.5% (25-for-55) from the field for the game and hit nine three-pointers. Despite the Peacocks out-rebounding Truman by 10 (42-32), the hosts only scored 10 second-chance points to the Bulldogs' seven, while the purple and white turned 15 UIU turnovers into 20 points. Truman's 10 turnovers led to just five Peacock points.

Winners of two straight, Truman heads to Springfield this weekend for the Drury Thanksgiving Classic, where the team will face both Cameron (Okla.) and Union (Tenn.) on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 27-28.
