Box Score (PDF)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Six Bulldogs scored in double-figures, including all five starters, as the Truman men's basketball team picked up win No. 7 on the season Tuesday night, defeating arch-rival Quincy by a 91-76 score in Pershing Arena.

Truman (7-3, 2-1 GLVC) trailed just once on the night – at 2-0 after the first possession of the game – before taking control and leading almost the rest of the way. After trailing for just a brief moment, the Bulldogs rolled off an 11-1 run to take an 11-3 lead less than four minutes into the game. The lead reached 17 during Truman's red-hot start that saw the purple and white hit 13 of its first 19 shots, including 4-of-8 from three-point range, before Quincy began to creep back into the contest. The Hawks (5-4, 2-1 GLVC) ratcheted up their defense and crawled to within just five at the break, with Truman taking a 43-38 lead into the intermission.

However, in the second half, Truman's pushed the lead back to 11 at 59-48 on a Kyle Kanaskie three-pointer with 12:32 to play. Quincy would get Truman's lead down to seven with 7:47 to go, but immediately the lead ballooned back to double-figures where the Bulldogs would keep it for the rest of the night.

Both Cole Myers and Connor Erickson shared the team-high with 18 points apiece, with Erickson chipping in six rebounds in 24 minutes of action. Andrew Vander Zwaag poured in 14 points after missing the team's previous game, while two other junior starters – Cory Myers and Kanaskie – finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Off the bench, junior Dwight Sistrunk, Jr. made his Truman debut and scored 10 points in 23 minutes.

The Bulldogs shot 54% from the field for the game, including 9-of-21 (43%) from behind the three-point arc. Truman also made it theirs at the free throw line, hitting 18-of-22 (82%) of its charity stripe tries. Cory Myers had the team-high in rebounding with seven, while Kanaskie's five assists were part of Truman's 17 on the night. The Bulldogs got out-rebounded just slightly at 35-31 but held QU to 42% from the floor and 29% from three-point range. Truman also turned the Hawks over 15 times, leading to 21 points. The game featured one tie and one lead change – both coming in the first minute of play.

Quincy was led by Joseph Tagarelli's 24 points and seven rebounds, while Von Washington III added 15 points behind four three-pointers.

Truman will return to action this weekend, heading to Quincy for the Hawks' Holiday Tournament on Saturday (Dec. 19) and Sunday (Dec. 20). Action begins at 1 p.m. both days for the Bulldogs against Ohio Valley (Saturday) and Southern Arkansas (Sunday).

Additional Notes:
  • Truman now trails Quincy by just one in the all-time series, 59-58, and has won the las seven games between the programs. The Bulldogs are 6-0 against the Hawks since joining the GLVC prior to the 2013-14 season.
  • The Bulldogs snapped QU's five-game winning streak on Tuesday night, while in the process, winning their season-longest third in a row.
  • Sistrunk, Jr. saw his first action at Truman after transferring into the program prior to the Spring 2015 semester. He scored more than 500 points and handed out nearly 300 assists during his freshman and sophomore seasons at William Jewell.
  • The Bulldogs now move into a three-way tie for second-place in the GLVC West with both Quincy and Drury at 2-1. All three teams trail Missouri S&T, who is off to a 3-0 start.
