KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – Dave Gambino and Brendan Trimble each collected three hits and the Bulldog bullpen shutdown the offensive Washburn nine on Thursday as Truman knocked off the nationally-ranked Ichabods 10-6 in a non-conference game.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the first inning to jump on top as Jarod Hahn laced a ball to the right field corner scoring Zak Larkin from first. Trimble got a two-out single to score Gambino.

Washburn took the lead on a three-run homer by David Gauntt in the third and added three more on a jack by Kyle Carnahan in the fourth.

The Bulldogs scored four times in the bottom of the fourth, all with two outs. Trimble led off the inning with a double but two straight groundouts moved him to third. Larkin singled to center plating Trimble and following a pitching change, Gambino put one through the hole on the right side scoring Larkin and Hahn for the tie.

The fifth inning proved to be the difference.

The first two Ichabods reached before reliever Nate Lukas fanned Tanner Johnson looking. After a passed ball moved the runners up, pinch hitter Alex Head shot a ball into short center field. T.J. Wood came running in and dove to make the catch then fired to second doubling up Corey Gragg to end the inning without a run scored.

That defensive gem provided another spark for Truman's offense in the bottom of the inning. Trimble doubled to left and Wyatt Fones was hit by a pitch to put two runners on.

Wood hit a tailor-made double play ball that went between the legs of Riley Krane at short allowing Trimble to score the go-ahead run. Larkin walked and Hahn flied to center scoring Fones on the sac fly. Paul Trenhaile then extended his team-leading 17-game hitting streak by stroking a double to right center field scoring two more to make it 10-6.

Lukas settled down and notched a 1-2-3 sixth inning and Peter Young came in to pitch the seventh and allowed just one hit in his two innings of work. Austin Tinsley gave up a two-out walk on a full count in the ninth but then finished it off by getting Connor Crimmins to ground out.

Lukas earned his first collegiate win allowing two runs on one hit.

The Bulldogs will open up a key GLVC West Division series against William Jewell (Mo.) College on the road Saturday. The Cardinals are 7-1 in the conference to sit atop the standings. First pitch is scheduled for noon on both Saturday and Sunday.
