Bulldogs Rally in Second Half to Take Down Tritons

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - Junior forward Connor Erickson scored all 11 of his points in the second half to help spark the Truman men's basketball team to a 67-62 home victory against the University of Missouri-St. Louis in Gen. John J. Pershing Arena on Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
 
Erickson, who played just five minutes in the first half due to foul trouble, went 5-of-6 from the floor in the final 20 minutes – playing 13 – and adding a free throw for a half- and game-high 11 points. The Bulldogs, who improved to 13-5 (5-3 GLVC) with the victory, shot just 36% in the opening half to go into the break down three, 33-30, but connected on 16-of-29 (55%) of its second-half field goals to outscore UMSL (6-11, 0-8 GLVC) by eight in the final stanza.
 
Senior Cole Myers scored 10 points off the bench, and junior guard Kyle Kanaskie added 10 points of his own. Juniors Cory Myers and Dwight Sistrunk, Jr., scored nine points each and combined for seven assists, with the elder Myers added a game-high three steals to his double-figure night.
 
Truman shot 46% from the field for the game and hit just six three-pointers (one in the second half) but made UMSL pay on the defensive end – forcing the GLVC's co-leader in assist-to-turnover ratio (with Truman) into 19 turnovers with just nine assists on its 25 made field goals. The Bulldogs turned those 19 miscues into 19 points, while Truman finished with 14 assists on 27 made baskets with nine turnovers.
 
The Bulldogs out-scored UMSL in the paint, 42-28, while the Tritons captured the rebounding battle by a 35-26 margin.
 
Truman will return to the court on Saturday afternoon, hosting Maryville (7-11, 1-7 GLVC) at 3 p.m. in Pershing Arena. The Saints dropped a 98-79 decision at Quincy on Thursday night.
