Swimming Battles Div. I Billikens in Pair of Tight Duals

ST. LOUIS - - Junior Evyn Spencer and sophomore Nikki Sisson each captured two individual victories, while the Truman men's and women's swimming teams combined for seven first-place finishes during a pair of Friday night duals against St. Louis University.

Both teams lost by the overall final score count; however, the Bulldog women do not compete in diving, which earned the Div. I Billikens nine points in the lone diving event. With the nine points, SLU picked up a 110-104 victory against the nationally-ranked Bulldogs on the women's side, while the Billiken men earned a 151-70 victory against the Truman men's side.

In both of Spencer's races, she led a 1-2 contingent of 'Dogs to touch the wall, as she and sophomore Libby Opfer took the top two spots in the 100 Fly (58.10 and 59.86). Spencer then went 1-2 with fellow junior Hannah Nicks in the 100 Back, hitting at 57.45 and 1:00.43, respectively.

Meanwhile, Sisson won both of the night's sprint events in the Free, earning first-place in the 50 Free (24.74) and 100 Free (53.13). Then to cap the night, the Bulldog women brought home first place in the 200 Free Relay, led by the quartet of junior Alison Strickler, Sisson, Nicks, and sophomore Jamie Fitzpatrick.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs earned two first-place nods in the meet, as sophomore Jeff Cavanaugh won the 1000 Free early in the night with a time of 10:02.15. Freshman JT Thayer then earned a first-place finish in the 500 Free, hitting with a time of 4:48.02.

The Bulldogs will have a fast turnaround before their final regular season duals, as Truman will face Washington (Mo.) University at 12 p.m. on Saturday in St. Louis.
