ROLLA, Mo. - - Junior guard Kyle Kanaskie never missed, and fellow junior guard Dwight Sistrunk, Jr., added 18 points and three assists to help guide the Truman men's basketball team to an 82-69 road victory at Missouri S&T on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs, who improved to 15-5 overall and 7-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with the win to kick off a four-game road trip, trailed 65-64 with 7:19 to play but flipped the script on both ends of the court – out-scoring the Miners (8-11, 4-6 GLVC) by an 18-4 margin the rest of the way. For the majority of the night, Truman struggled to get into a rhythm; however, the Bulldogs tied a season-high in steals as a team with 14 to help keep the Miners at bay, holding S&T more than 13 points below their season average.

A disjointed, but balanced, first-half saw head coach Chris Foster having to maneuver around six different Bulldogs with two fouls in the first 20 minutes, as Truman scored 16 of its 40 first-half points from the foul line. Junior Connor Erickson scored nine points – all from the line – in the opening 20 minutes, while both senior Cole Myers and Sistrunk, Jr., each poured home eight points. Truman led by as many as seven – 33-26 – with less than six minutes to play, but a frenetic finish to the half helped see the Miners draw even at the break. The teams combined for 29 fouls and 38 free throw attempts, with the Miners picking up 15 fouls and the Bulldogs whistled for 14.

The second half was more free-flowing, with Kanaskie scoring 16 of his career-high-tying 22 points in the final 20 minutes of action. For the game, he made all six of his field goals – including three triples – and all seven of his free throw opportunities for 22 points. Sistrunk, Jr., scored a new high in a Bulldog uniform with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting and a 6-of-9 night from the foul line, while both Cole Myers and Erickson finished with 13 points apiece.

Not to be missed was the defensive prowess of junior Billy Daniel, who recorded a career-high five blocks and nine rebounds in his 16 minutes off the bench. Daniel's block party marked the most in a single-game by a Bulldog since Mike Carlson blocked six Nebraska-Kearney shots on January 24, 2013.

Truman shot 53% from the floor for the game, including 58% in the second half, and hit 7-of-17 three-point tries. The Bulldogs, who entered the night as just a 70% free throw shooting squad, connected on 25-of-32 attempts from the line for a rate of 78%. S&T won the rebound battle, 36-25, but shot just 42% as a team and hit just 6-of-18 three-pointers. The Miners also made just 13-of-21 free throws.

The victory moves the purple and white into a three-way tie for the GLVC West division lead with both Quincy and Drury. All three teams, sitting at 7-3, will be back in action on Saturday, as the Bulldogs head southwest on I-44 for a 3:15 p.m. tilt with DU in Springfield. The Panthers defeated QU by a 79-76 score at home on Thursday night, setting up the three-team tie with eight conference games to play.

Additional Notes:
  • The Bulldogs improved to 93-48 all-time against the Miners and now hold a 31-29 lead in games played in Rolla. Truman has won six straight in the series dating back to 2004, including all three games with the teams under the GLVC banner (since 2013-14 season).
  • Chris Foster coached his 50th game for the Bulldogs, picking up his 35th win in the process (.700 win percentage).
  • Truman has now won all 28 games under Foster (including 13-0 this season) when the purple and white hit the 80-point mark.
  • Erickson, Kanaskie, and Sistrunk, Jr., all set new career-highs both in individual FT makes and FT attempts, combining to go an efficient 22-of-26.
