KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Bulldog Baseball team split their fourth straight doubleheader as they won the opener against Lewis University 7-5 behind Adam Gregorich's grand slam but fell in the nightcap 6-3. The two teams will return to the diamond at noon tomorrow for another doubleheader.

Game 1 Recap:
Gregorich's blast came in the bottom of the fifth with two outs and a full count on Lewis relief pitcher Robert Talarico. It was his second career home run in a Truman uniform and first grand slam by a Bulldog since Bryce Bond hit one in 2010.

Truman took the lead in the bottom of the first after giving up two runs to start the game. Dave Gambino tripled in Nick Agliolo and Mason King for the first two runs in the frame and Gambino scored on an RBI ground from Brendan Trimble. Gregorich would double and go to third on balk but was stranded 90 feet away.

The Flyers jumped back on top with three of their own in the second inning. Austin Schultz belted a home run to left center to lead off then Chris Pikoulas blasted a two-run shot to left to put the Lewis up 5-3.

It would stay that way until the bottom of the fifth. King led off with a single and swiped second while Agliolo drew a walk. The Flyers made the pitching change from starter Pete Hamot to Talarico and he got Gambino to pop out and Jason Priest to fly out.

Hamot left a breaking ball inside that struck Trimble in the back to load the bases. Gregorich worked the count full then hit a no doubter over the right field fence for the lead.

Starter Mark Roberts (2-1) got through the sixth to leave with the lead. Peter Young retired the side in order for his third of the season and ninth of his career tying Dan Hillen for the career lead in that category.

Game 2 Recap:
Just like the opener, Lewis jumped on the Bulldogs for three runs in the top of the first. Kurt Becker hit a two-out three-run homer to right center for the early lead.

Truman chipped away with single runs in the third and fourth innings. A fielding error allowed T.J. Wood to score from third but the 'Dogs left a pair on base.

Wood singled in Trimble in the fourth to cut the Flyers' lead to 3-2.

Lewis would get a run back in the fifth on an infield single by Austin Mastela with two outs.

Truman responded with Trimble's two-out RBI single through the right side that scored Agliolo.

The Flyers added insurance runs in the top of the seventh. The first two hitters reached on hits. After a throwing error that allowed one run to score, Becker hit a sac fly to left to put Lewis on top 6-3.

Phil Warner recorded the four-out save for his second of the season to preserve the win for starter Dalton Hottle (2-0). Kent Frantz struck out six in the complete-game for Truman allowing six runs, two earned and 10 hits.

Doubleheader Notes:
  • Five Bulldogs collected three hits during the doubleheader, Brendan Trimble, Nick Agliolo, T.J. Wood, Adam Gregorich and Mason King
  • Agliolo extended his hitting streak to 13 games going 3-for-6 with three runs scored on the afternoon.
  • Both teams hit above .300 for the day with Truman batting at a .357 clip and the Flyers at a .328 mark.
  • Neal Tyrell was 5-for-7 on the day for Lewis with three runs scored and Kurt Becker had four RBIs.
