KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – On a soggy Saturday afternoon, the Lewis Flyers swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Truman Bulldogs winning the pair of games by scores of 8-3 and 7-4. Truman returns to action on Tuesday hosting Missouri Western for a twinbill at noon.

Game 1 Recap:
The Flyers scored two runs in the fourth to break a 2-2 tie then scored two more in the fifth and seventh innings to take the opener 8-3.

Chris Pikoulas was 2-for-2 and drove in three as Lewis took advantage of six Bulldog walks.

The Flyers scored an unearned run in the first and got another on a sac fly in the second to take a 2-0 lead.

Dave Gambino drilled the first pitch he saw with one on in the bottom of the third to tie the game. It was Gambino's second home run of the season.

Pikoulas hit an RBI single to score Austin Schultz to break the tie. Number nine hitter Sam Cybulski followed with a run scoring single to make it 4-2.

Lewis added a pair in the fifth when Kurt Becker tripled in Austin Mastela and later scored on a single by Pikoulas.

Mason King hit a towering fly to right for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the fifth that just cleared the fence for his first collegiate home run.

Sam Couch came in to relieve starter Alex Shake with one on and one out in the fifth and retired the next two Truman hitters to preserve the three-run lead. Couch would strand two more Bulldogs in the sixth and got some insurance in the top of the seventh. Becker laced a double and scored then Pikoulas hit a sac fly for the final run of the game.

Shake got the win going four and an third while Nate Lukas was tagged with the loss.

Game 2 Recap:
Lewis earned the series win with a 7-4 victory in a game that featured a 51 minute rain delay and was called after five innings due to darkness.

Ethan Bloom hit a two-run homer in a six-run third inning. Weather and field conditions were starting to become a factor in the inning as a constant, steady drizzle were making things tough on the players. After the homer, a four-pitch walk, a fielding error, a run-scoring wild pitch and another walk led up to a three-run homer by Sam Cybulski with two outs.

In the bottom of the third after the first two were retired, three straight walks loaded the bases for Truman. Brendan Trimble hit a high fly that the center fielder lost in the sky while Bloom, the left fielder charged from his position only to have it bounce out of his glove allowing all three Truman runners to score to cut the lead to 6-3.

The game was halted after the top of the fourth because of rain and deteriorating field conditions for 51 minutes.

It resumed at 5:16 p.m. with Adam Gregorich leading off for Truman with a double. However he was stranded at third.

Lewis was issued two walks in their fifth and Cybulski singled with two-outs to score Cale Robinson for a 7-3 lead.

Nick Agliolo led of Truman's fifth by extending his hitting streak to 15 games with a single to right. Dave Gambino followed with a single and Jason Priest walked to load the bases. The Flyers summoned Nick Davito to the hill and he got Brendan Trimble to bounce back to him to start a potential double play but instead the return throw from home to first went through the glove of the first baseman allowing Gambino to score from second. Davito then came back from a 3-0 deficit in the count to fan Charlie Krey and got Gregorich to ground out to end the game and get a save.

Jake Herron was the victor for Lewis with four innings of work while Adrian Morris took the loss in his first collegiate start.  Cybulski was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored to lead Lewis offensively.
