Griffons Take Pair From Truman Baseball

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Missouri Western Griffons took two from the Truman Bulldogs in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday. The Griffons won game one 6-1 and game two 19-9. The Bulldogs wrap up non-conference play this weekend against Augustana (S.D.).
 
 
Game 1 Recap:
The Griffons got a two-out RBI single in the first then scored three times in the second to take a 4-0 lead. They would add another in the fourth and both teams exchanged runs in the sixth.
 
David Glaude was 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs for the Griffons and Missouri Western had 11 hits and issued 11 walks by Truman pitching.
 
Joey Gardner collected a pair of hits for Truman and Jason Priest had the RBI single driving in Mason King. Nick Agliolo's 15-game hitting streak was stopped as he went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts.
 
 
Game 2 Recap:
Missouri Western scored six runs on seven hits in the first 15 pitches of game two. Nick Gawley doubled in a pair of runs and Cosimo Cannella hit a three-run home run to left field.
 
The Griffons added four in the second, two in the fourth and four in the fifth to go up 16-1.
 
Truman fought back as they would score the next eight runs. Mason King led off the fifth with a double and later scored on Dave Gambino's third home run of the season. Jason Priest doubled and scored on Adam Gregorich's groundout then Wyatt Fones had a hit to score Gregorich from second.
 
The Bulldogs scored three more times in the seventh and left the bases loaded. Gregorich had an RBI single and walks to King and Agliolo with the bases loaded cut the lead down to nine; however Gambino flied to shallow left to end the threat.
 
Missouri Western broke the 8-0 Truman run in the ninth as Jeremy Alvarado led off with a solo home run to left. The Griffons tacked on two more in the inning and had five more hits to give them 28 for the game.
 
Sam Reuter pitched the final five innings and struck out six with three of his seven runs allowed coming in the ninth after he had eclipsed 100 pitches.
 
King was 4-for-4 with a double, walk, stolen bases and two runs scored for Truman as they pounded out 15 hits.
 
Doubleheader Notes:
  • Mason King was 5-for-7 on the afternoon batting leadoff for Truman. He scored three times and had one stolen bases.
  • Truman hit .308 on the afternoon but Missouri Western hit .470 with 39 hits, four doubles and six home runs.
  • King and Jason Priest had doubles for the Bulldogs.
