KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Bulldog Baseball team got five RBIs from Jason Priest and some key relief pitching to earn a split with Augustana (S.D.) in a non-conference doubleheader at the Truman Baseball Park.

The teams will resume their series with a seven-inning game followed by a nine-inning contest at noon on Sunday.

Game 1 Recap:
Ryan Hamilton pitched a complete-game shutout over the Bulldogs in the opener as he allowed five hits and struck out four to earn his second win of the season.

The game was scoreless until the fourth until the Vikings pushed across their first run on an RBI groundout by Alex Beals.

Truman put the first two on in the fifth but a failed bunt attempt resulted in a double play ending the threat. Augustana seized control when Patrick Fiala hit his second home run of the season to make it 2-0 and later Beals doubled and scored on a hit by Lucas Barry.

The Bulldogs stranded two more in the sixth before the Vikings blew things open with a five-run seventh inning.

Game 2 Recap:
Game two started as a continuation of game one with Augustana scoring once in the second then six times in the third to go up 7-0. Tyler Field led off the third with a triple to the left field corner and the Vikings brought 11 hitters to the plate while chasing starter Kent Frantz.

Truman's bats heated up in the bottom of the third. Adam Gregorich and Wyatt Fones led off with consecutive singles. A hit batsman and a walk would later load the bases for Jason Priest who delivered with his second home run of the year and the Bulldogs second grand slam of the season to cut the lead to 7-5.

Charlie Kreh doubled to lead off the fourth and scored on Fones sac fly to center but Augustana got that run back in the fifth. The first three reached against Adrian Morris by single, hit by pitch and bunt single. Tyler Spencer was called from the pen and got the first out on a sac fly by Justin Warne but retired the next two on a line out to second and grounder to first.

Nick Agliolo and Dave Gambino started Truman's half of the fifth with base hits and Priest drove in another with an RBI single. Kreh then crushed his second double in as many at bats to tie the game but Priest was thrown out at the plate.

Truman loaded the bases in the sixth thanks to a pair of walk issued to Mason King and Agliolo. After Gambino struck out, Priest drew a walk to bring home the go-ahead run.

Meanwhile, Spencer retired eight straight Vikings before hitting a batter with two outs in the seventh. He would set down Augustana 1-2-3 in the eighth to pitch four hitless innings and struck out three to eventually earn the win.

Peter Young came in to close the door in the ninth and did just that with an uneventful final frame to not only pick up his fourth save of the year but 10th for his career giving him the all-time Truman saves record as a sophomore.

Doubleheader Notes:
  • The Bulldogs had 11 of their 16 hits in the second game.
  • 10 different Truman players had hits with Wyatt Fones, Trevor Bell, Charlie Kreh, Adam Gregorich, Jason Priest and T.J. Wood each collecting two apiece.
  • Priest's five RBIs in game two were the most by a Bulldog in a single game since Chris Zrostlik drove in seven against Northwest Missouri State on March 23, 2013.
  • Spencer's four innings of work were the most this season and most by him since he pitched six against Drury in May 2014. He missed the entire 2015 season.
  • Peter Young now has 10 career saves in two seasons of work at Truman. The previous career high was nine set by Dan Hillen from 2003-05.
  • Tyler Field, seeing his first action of the season for Augustana in game two went 3-for-3 with a triple and RBI.
  • Jacob James, Patrick Fiala, Patrick O'Donnell and Lucas Barry all had three hits on the afternoon for Augustana.
  • The teams played in chilly conditions with the temp not reaching 40 degrees and a stiff wind out of the northwest. At times, snow flurries blew across the field.
