KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – T.J. Wood and Brendan Trimble had three hits apiece and Sam Reuter pitched seven and two-thirds innings as Truman earned a series split with Augustana (S.D.) on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings won game one 10-3 while Truman took the nightcap 5-1.

The Bulldogs will open Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday with a visit by rival Quincy. The two travel partners will play a four-game series at noon on both Friday and Saturday in Kirksville.

Game 1 Recap:
A pair of errors and a five-run first inning doomed the Bulldogs in the opener. Augustana jumped out to the early lead as all nine hitters went to the plate in the first inning. Truman tried to battle back with two of their own in their half of the first with Dave Gambino driving in the first run on an RBI single and Nick Agliolo later scoring on a two-out error.

However, the Vikings got three straight hits with two outs in the second to tack on three more runs.

T.J. Davis doubled and drove in five of the 10 Augustana runs. Patrick Fiala drove in four with two doubles and a single.

Ryne Lees pitched six solid innings and struck out seven Bulldogs to earn his third win of the season. Brad Molski was tagged with the loss as he gave up five runs, two earned.

Game 2 Recap:
The story of game two was an early lead for the Bulldogs and a career pitching performance by Sam Reuter. Jason Priest's RBI single, his sixth RBI of the weekend scored Agliolo for a 1-0 Bulldog lead.

The Vikings tied the game on a sac fly by Justin Warne in the third.

Reuter worked around lead off singles in the second and fourth innings and stranded a runner at third in the sixth. Truman would break through and reward the junior pitcher in the bottom of the sixth with three runs on two outs. Brendan Trimble led off with a single then after two straight fly outs, Wyatt Fones singled and T.J. Wood got one down in front of the centerfielder that brought Trimble in from second. Mason King then slashed one up the middle to score Fones and Wood for the 4-1 lead.

Reuter had a 1-2-3 seventh with the ball not leaving the infield, then got the first two out in the eighth before being lifted for Matt Tometz and a lefty on lefty match-up. Tometz did his job and got Alex Fink to ground out to second to end the eighth.

Fones was hit to start the bottom of the inning and was lifted for pinch runner Josh Abegg. The sophomore swiped second then moved to third on a single by Wood. He would score an insurance run on a wild pitch.

Peter Young, in a non-save situation, allowed a two-out single but then nailed it shut to give the Bulldogs the doubleheader and series split.

It was the longest outing of Reuter's career at seven and two-thirds and his first start of the season. He fanned four, walked nobody and allowed six hits on 86 pitches.

Series Notes:
