KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Bulldog Baseball team hit five home runs and Peter Young closed both victories as Truman swept a GLVC West Division doubleheader over Drury by scores of 12-10 and 5-3 on Saturday. The two teams will continue their series on Sunday at noon.

A brutal wind played havoc on fielding during the afternoon but aided the 'Dogs with five home runs, all to left field in doubleheader. Nick Agliolo had two of the five as every fly ball was an adventure for the fielders.

Game 1 Recap:
After Drury scored two runs in the top of the second, Brendan Trimble laced a double to start a five-run frame for Truman in their half of the inning. Dave Gambino, who went 4-for-5 had the biggest hit with a bases clearing double to center field.

The Panthers scored a pair of unearned runs in the third but Truman got one run back on a solo home run by Trimble to lead off their third. It was Trimble's first collegiate home run.

Agliolo hit a two-run shot in the fourth to put the Bulldogs in front 8-5. Truman would add one more in the fifth and three in the seventh. Charlie Kreh led off with a homer and Agliolo plated two with a single up the middle to make it 12-5.

Drury battled back and got to reliever Alex Hoffman in his sixth inning of work. Five of the first six hitters reached in the eighth with consecutive doubles by Ryan Wadkins and John Goodrich pulling the Panthers back to within three at 12-9. Austin Tinsley came in and got the next two hitters out to preserve the lead.

Peter Young gave up a solo home run to Ryan Kayhill in the ninth with one out then a bunt single by Justin Abernathy brought the tying run to the plate. Ryan Colombo, who started on the hill for the Panthers bounced out to second to end the game.

Kayhill was 5-for-5 for Drury and Wadkins was 3-for-4 as the Panthers had 16 hits for the game.

Hoffman relieved starter Mark Roberts in the third and struck out six in 5.1 innings pitched. Tinsley got two outs in the eighth for the hold and Young notched his sixth save of the year.

Game 2 Recap:
Game two saw both teams trade runs in the first inning and the Bulldogs jumping on top with Joey Gardner's first collegiate home run to lead off the second.

Conner Wilson answered for the Panthers with his third round tripper of the year to tie the game in the third with two outs. Drury had runners at second and third before Kent Frantz caught Connor Pomering looking for the third out.

T.J. Wood singled to start the fourth. Wood took off for second and Mason King slapped the ball up the middle past the shortstop and into center field as John Goodrich was heading to cover the base. Wood went to third.

Nick Agliolo lined out but King stole second and forced the Panthers to walk Dave Gambino to load the bases. Jason Priest then bounced one up the box and Goodrich came up with the ball, flipped to second for the force but the return throw was wild allowing both Wood and King to score giving Truman the 5-3 lead.

Frantz stranded two Panthers in the fifth an another in the sixth before giving way to Young for the seventh. Young retired the first two hitters but Connor Wilson singled to bring up the tying run. Mason McCarville watched strike three giving Young the Truman single-season saves record with his seventh of the year.

Frantz pitched six innings and allowed three runs on 10 hits while striking out four Drury hitters. Luke Burnidge took the loss with five innings of work.
