KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Bulldog Baseball team scored runs in their final at bat in both games on Sunday to sweep the doubleheader and win their GLVC West Division series with Missouri-St. Louis. Truman won 2-1 in the opener on a wild pitch and scored three times in the bottom of the eighth to win 11-9 over the Tritons.

Game 1 Recap:
A wild pitch by UMSL closer Austin Simokaitis scored pinch runner Kyle Smith as Truman won their second straight game in walk-off fashion 2-1.

The Bulldogs wasted some early opprotunities as they put runners on second and third with no outs and did not score in the first. The first two were retired in the Truman second before T.J. Wood laced a singled through the left side and Mason King followed with a single. Nick Agliolo provided the two-out RBI double to put Truman on top 1-0.

The Tritons answered back in the top of the third as Tom DeCero smacked a single to score Jake Beckwith.

Truman had a runner at third in the sixth with one out but could not push across the go ahead run.

In the bottom of the seventh, UMSL went to Simokaitis to relieve starter Kyle Wilson. Simokaitis walked pinch hitter Charlie Kreh to start things off and Brendan Trimble executed the perfect sac but to move pinch runner Kyle Smith into scoring position.

Adam Gregorich was walked to set up the double play but Trevor Bell lined a ball to right deep enough for Smith to move up 90 feet to third. With pinch hitter Joey Gardner at the dish, Simokaitis tried to go away from the hitter but it went too far and skipped to the backstop allowing Smith to score without a play for the win.

Alex Hoffmann threw 76 pitches in earning the complete-game victory for his fifth of the season. Hoffmann scattered eight hits and struck out one.

Agliolo and Wood had two hits apiece for Truman and Nick Ulrey and Beckwith had two each for UMSL.

Game 2 Recap:
A three-run eighth inning, all with two outs, propelled the Bulldogs past UMSL 11-9 to take three of four in the series.

The Bulldogs led 4-1 after two and loaded the bases four times through the first six innings.

Both starting pitchers struggled with command as neither lasted past the third. There was a combine 11 walks issued by Kevin Smith (6) and Mark Roberts (5).

The Tritons roared back in the third to chase Roberts scoring six times to go up 7-4. Sam Reuter came in and gave up singles to Beckwith and Jose Ortiz before striking out DeCero to end the frame.

UMSL added an unearned run in the fourth when Justin Busekrus reached on an error but scored on a double play ball to go up 8-4.
The Bulldogs started to scratch back in the fifth. Adam Gregorich singled and walks were issued to Wyatt Fones and T.J. Wood to load the bases. Mason King was hit by a pitch to bring home a run.

Truman pulled closer in the sixth as more walks led to two runs. Dave Gambino and Charlie Kreh each were issued free passes and Gregorich singled to center to cut the lead down to 8-7.

The two teams exchanged runs in the seventh with UMSL scoring their run on a bases loaded hit by pitch but left them full as the last two hitters were retired.

Wood singled and later scored on a single by Nick Agliolo that made the score 9-8 in favor of the Tritons.

In the eighth, Brendan Trimble singled and was sacrificed to second base but pinch hitter Jason Priest struck out. Fones then shot a ball into center allowing Trimble to race home for the tying run. Fones moved up to second as the ball squirted away from the center fielder. Wood was walked intentionally to bring up leadoff hitter Mason King. The freshman delivered with a shot over the second base bag into center scoring Jon Lyons and Wood for the lead.

Reuter, working his seventh inning of relief work, gave up an infield single to start the ninth but then earased the runner on a double play and got Dominic Orlando to pop out to end the game and even his season record to 2-2. Reuter threw 96 pitches and fanned six in six-plus innings of work.

Zach Lindsay was responsible for the winning runs on base in the eighth and was tagged with the loss in the three-hour plus game.
