The First Pitch:
The Bulldog Baseball team will have to dust off their travel bags as they will hit the road for the first time in over a month when they travel to St. Louis to face Maryville University in a GLVC West Division series. The Bulldogs and Saints will play a four-game series on the campus of Missouri Baptist University due to facility construction on the Maryville campus. The Missouri Baptist Campus is located off of I-64 (Exit 24) Mason Road to North Outer 40 to College Park Drive.

He is tied for fifth in hits with 42 and had a 15-game hitting streak to start the season. Senior centerfielder T.J. Wood leads the conference with 16 stolen bases out of another league leading 19 attempts.

Starters senior Mark Roberts and sophomore Kent Frantz are among the league pitchers that have faces the most batters per game. Roberts is second behind Maryville's Tyler Omlid (48.00/g) at 46.92 batters per game this season in his seven starts. Frantz averages 44.91 batters per game and has Truman's only two complete games this season.

Sophomore closer Peter Young already holds the career saves record (13) and now holds the single-season saves record at seven this year. He is tied for second in the GLVC in saves behind Missouri-St. Louis' Austin Simokaitis (10).

Last Year vs. Maryville:
The Bulldogs and Saints closed out the 2015 season with a four-game, three-day series in Kirksville. The two teams split the four games with the Bulldogs winning both nine-inning single games by scores of 3-2 and 4-3 (10 innings) while the Saints won the Saturday doubleheader by scores of 9-5 and 2-0.

The Saints pitchers struck out 23 Bulldogs during the series and Truman hit .270 compared to Maryville's .304. Mark Roberts tossed eight innings of shutout ball before Peter Young closed the door in the ninth to preserve the 3-2 win.

Maryville got a four-run sixth inning to win game two 9-5 despite committing four errors in the game and Robbie Gordon allowed five hits and struck out nine in a complete-game (7) shutout in game three 2-0.

Truman led 3-0 in the finale but Maryville tied the game with three runs in the top of the seventh. Both teams put up zeros  until the bottom of the 10th when Michael Venturella led off with a walk and later scored on a wild pitch.

Bulldogs In The GLVC:

Truman is 5-3-10 in GLVC four-game series since joining the league in 2014. They have one four-game sweep, at Southern Indiana in 2015 and have been swept one time at home against Drury in 2014. The Bulldogs last series win was in 2015 against Missouri S&T (four series ago) and last series loss was at Rockhurst in 2014 (12 series ago).

The Bulldogs have had seven doubleheader sweeps in conference play with three coming on day one and four on day two. Truman has swept both day one doubleheaders this season.

Opponents have swept Truman nine times in the past three years in doubleheader. Seven of the nine have occurred on the second day of the series, one was the middle day of a three-game set.

Career Record Watch:
Mark Roberts is Truman's career leader in innings pitched. Roberts surpassed Kyle Veazey (220.1) earlier this season and has pitched 242.0 innings over the course of 47 appearances and 37 starts. His 11 career wins is fifth in Truman history. He is now in the top 10 of career Bulldogs in appearances while his next start will bring him four away from the all-time record of 42 held by Veazey.

Peter Young's 13 career saves is four better than the former record of nine held by Dan Hillen from 2003-2005. Young has converted on all 13 save opportunities in his career.

Dave Gambino's 637 putouts is fourth on Truman's career list.

GLVC West Primer:

After two weeks of conference games, a three-way tie exists between William Jewell, Missouri S&T and Rockhurst at 5-3. The Bulldogs, Quincy and Missouri-St. Louis are a game back at 4-4. Drury is next at 3-5 and Maryville brings up the rear at 2-6.

Rockhurst (5-3) at Missouri S&T (5-3)
William Jewell (5-3) at Drury (3-5)
Quincy (4-4) at Missouri-St. Louis (4-4)

The top four teams in the division will advance to the GLVC Postseason Tournament in Westfield, Indiana that will run from May 12-15.

Preseason Polls:
In the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll, Truman was picked third in the West Division behind Quincy and Drury. The Hawks picked up 12 first place votes and had 117 points, Drury had one first place vote and 96 total and Truman had two first place tallies and 91 total votes.

The University of Indianapolis earned 11 first place votes to sit atop the poll for the GLVC East Division with Southern Indiana gaining the other five first place votes and totaled 105 points.

This season, the GLVC will play exclusively within their divisions to decide postseason tournament berths. The top four in each Division will gain spots in the tournament to be played in Westfield, Indiana in mid-May.

Up Next:
The Bulldogs are back out on the road and will head to Rolla to play arguably one of the best teams in the conference in Missouri S&T. Truman took three of four from the Miners last season in Kirksville in a series dampened by rain. The Miners are 18-9 overall winning three of four over Drury and splitting a road series against the nationally-ranked Quincy team last weekend.
