KANSAS CITY, Mo.  – The Bulldog Baseball team reached the 20-win mark for the third straight year as Truman defeated Rockhurst 8-3 in the season finale on Sunday.

Senior Mark Roberts got the call for the start and with it, tied Kyle Veazey on the all-time starts list by a Bulldog pitcher with 42. Roberts had earlier in the season logged the most career innings by a Truman hurler and added to that total with an seven-inning performance on Sunday. He fanned six and did not allow a run after a three-run first inning by the Hawks. Roberts finished with 267.1 innings pitched.

Truman scored a pair of runs in the third on Nick Agliolo's double to center field then scored in the final four consecutive innings to overtake the Hawks and grab the final game of the four-game series.

Jason Priest's RBI double down the left field line scored Charlie Kreh for a 4-3 Truman lead in the sixth.

Dave Gambino picked up a two-out single in the seventh to score T.J. Wood for a 5-3 advantage. Wood was hit by a pitch then stole second base to move into scoring position. It was the final stolen base for Wood's career as he finishes third in attempts with 61 and fourth in career steals with 43, 24 coming in his senior year.

Priest belted his fourth home run of the season in the eighth and tied Gambino and Kreh for the team lead in homers.

In the ninth, Shane Schmidt hit a pinch single to left and the pinch runner Jon Lyons stole second and scored on Gambino's single. Brendan Trimble closed the scoring with a sac fly RBI.

Peter Young closed out the ninth in 1-2-3 fashion.

Gambino and Priest collected two hits apiece for Truman.

Roberts' win was the 12th of his career, tying him for fourth all-time and tying him for fourth in appearances with 52.

Series Notes:
  • Charlie Kreh had the hot bat for the Bulldogs with eight hits in 16 at bats with five runs scored and four RBIs.
  • T.J. Wood also drove in a weekend high four runs and added two more stolen bases. Wood finishes the regular season as the GLVC's stolen base leader.
  • Truman was a perfect 6-of-6 in steals and finished the season with 73 successful steals out of 103 total attempts.
  • The Bulldog pitching staff issued 17 walks to 15 strikeouts while on the flip side of the coin, the Hawks struck out 22 Bulldogs and issued only three bases on balls.
  • David Stober led all hitters with 11 hits including three doubles and a triple in four games played. Stober scored four times and hit .647 with a .941 slugging percentage and a .684 on-base average.
  • The Hawks hit .343 as a team and won three of the four games despite scoring just one more run (25-24) than the Bulldogs.
  • The loss was a costly one for Rockhurst as it knocked them out of a possible first place spot atop the GLVC West Division. Instead, the Hawks fell to third in the west and will should face the number two team out of the East.
