NOTES: Big Weekend For Truman Women's Soccer Ahead

Bellarmine/Southern Indiana

An important home weekend for Truman Women's Soccer will start on Friday when the Bulldogs host Bellarmine in a GLVC battle. The Bulldogs are looking to lockdown a GLVC Postseason Tournament spot with only four matches remaining on the slate.

The Bulldogs are currently seventh in the GLVC standings with a logjam of teams within one or two matches of one another. Quincy (8-1) has a two-game lead on the conference with McKendree (6-1-2) and Maryville (6-2-2) the only two other schools with over a .700 winning percentage. Indianapolis (5-3-1), William Jewell (4-3-2), Southern Indiana (3-2-4), Truman (4-3-3), Illinois Springfield (4-4-2), Lewis (4-4-2), Bellarmine (3-3-3), Drury (4-5) and Rockhurst (4-5) are all in play for one of the five remaining spots in the tournament.

The Bulldogs went 0-1-1 on their trip down to #19 McKendree and Southern Indiana over the weekend. Truman battled the nationally ranked Bearcats to a 0-0 draw on Friday night while on Sunday USI's Taylor Mccormick scored twice to overcome Truman's 1-0 lead to down the Bulldogs 2-1.

Truman is 7-4 all-time against the Knights of Bellarmine and got a goal by senior Stephanie Williams 43 seconds into overtime to win last season in Kirksville. Bellarmine took both meetings in 2015, one in overtime during the regular season and the other coming in the NCAA Regional. Samantha Ferry leads the Knights with four goals and one assist and keeper Taylor Smith with a 0.54 goals-against average.

Indianapolis will be the opponent for "Senior Day" on Sunday and are currently in fourth place in the conference. The Greyhounds are 4-0-1 away from Indianapolis and will play conference leader Quincy on the road Friday night. Last year, Truman put three in the back of the net in a shutout home win over UINDY. Laura Ney scored 11 minutes into the game and Kelsey Murphy converted on a PK to give Truman a 2-0 lead at half. Megan Whitehead scored early in the second for the third goal while Katie Mattingly made four saves for the shutout.

SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD…The Truman Women's Soccer team earned the GLVC Sportsmanship Award from the conference coaches last season. They joined Football, Baseball, Women's Cross Country and Swimming to earn team awards for Truman and helped the school earn their first ever conference overall sportsmanship award.
