KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Truman State University men's soccer team gave up two first-half goals to Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon's Senior Day at Bulldog Soccer Park before getting on the board. The Bulldogs cut the deficit to one with a score in the 74th minute, but it was two little, too late for the Purple and White as they fell to the Greyhounds with the 2-1 score.
Truman (3-11-1, 2-9-1 GLVC) will now head to Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis to close out the 2017 regular season while Indianapolis (9-3-1, 8-2-1 GLVC) has matchups against William Jewell, Rockhurst and Maryville still left on its schedule.
Sunday, the Bulldog score came off the foot of
Matt Yankowitz, his second in as many games, fourth of the year and eighth of his career. The sophomore was assisted by
Derek Merry, his first of the season and second of his career.
In goal,
Jory Knernschield got the start and played the first half with two saves on seven shots faced before
Zac Suazo took the second half with two shots faced. Offensively, Truman's 10 shots came from seven different players as Yankowitz had four and six other players had one apiece. Yankowitz also had two of the Bulldogs' three shots on goal with
Trevor Kaufmann responsible for the third.
In the team head-to-head, the two teams were even in shots (10-10) while UIndy had the upper hand in shots on goal (5-3) and corner kicks (8-3).
Next up, as mentioned above, Truman will be at Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday with the start time set for 2:30 p.m.
