LEBANON, Ill. - The Truman State University men's soccer team snapped a five-match skid and picked up its first win away from Kirksville on Friday night with a 1-0 decision at McKendree.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-9 overall, 2-7 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, thanks to
Tyler Nord's corner-kick goal in the 38th minute, the first of his career, on an assist from
Brian Kane. Meanwhile, the Bearcats fell to 2-8 on the year and 0-8 in league action.
In the team head-to-head, McKendree held the advantage in shots (15-13), saves (7-6) and corner-kick attempts (7-3), but Truman had the upper hand in shots on goal (8-6). In the net, the starter,
Jory Knernschield, was taken out at the 76:31 mark with one save and gave way to
Zac Suazo, who saved three shots in the final 13:29.
The Purple and White's 13 shots came from eight different players with
Matt Yankowitz and
Joel Reft at the top with three each. Reft led the way in the shots on goal department as all three of his looks were on target.
