MACOMB, Ill. - In their final action before switching over to the 2018 portion of the schedule, the Truman State University men's and women's swimming teams took care of business at Western Illinois on Saturday afternoon. The men defeated the Fighting Leathernecks, 118-103, while the women were the victors by a score of 123-81.
The men and women were each responsible for seven wins and we'll start with the men's side. Before we get into Truman's domination in the freestyle events, three Bulldogs, including
Caleb Kruse,
Jack McCormick and
Sam Heveroh won their respective events. Kruse was first in the 100 back (52.96), McCormick the 100 fly (53.94) and Heveroh the 200 IM (1:55.69).
Justin King touched the wall first in the 100 free (49.10),
Jeff Cavanaugh was the winner in the 500 free (4:46.56),
Riley Olson placed first in the 1000 free (10:07.88), and the Purple and White were victorious in the 400 free relay. That quartet was made up of Heveroh, McCormick,
Will Shanel, and
Lliot Gieseke with a mark of 3:10.44.
On the women's side, outside of a first place in five freestyle events,
Jamie Fitzpatrick was the fastest in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.10 and no swimmer was quicker than
Maggie Hickey in the 100 fly with a mark of 1:00.12.
On to the freestyle section,
Jasmine Roghair won both the 100 free (55.78) and the 200 free (1:58.98) while
Megan Mensinger was the best in both the 500 free (5:28.27) and the 1000 free (11:00.12). In the 400 free relay, Fitzpatrick,
Mikayla Kempf,
Emma Barnett, and
Kortney Betz finished in first with a time of 3:45.65.
Next up, both the men and women will host William Jewell on Saturday, Jan. 13 inside Pershing Natatorium with the start time set for 1 p.m.
