RECAP: Truman Rolls Past Southwest Baptist in Home Opener

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - After a pair of losses against ranked opponents to open its 2017 campaign, the Truman State University men's soccer team took out those frustrations on Southwest Baptist in Tuesday's home opener. The Bulldogs rolled past the Bearcats by a score of 4-0 as a final tuneup for Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play, which begins on Friday at Quincy.

Truman's (1-2) four scores came from four different players and Southwest Baptist (0-2) has now been outscored 7-0 in its two matches so far this season. The Purple and White were able to find the back of the net four times in a single match for the first time in nearly two years (Sept. 18, 2015 vs. Lewis).

Those four players that gave the Bulldogs their first scoring of the year included Jake Koenig from Nicholas Klemm in the 11th minute, Matt Yankowitz courtesy of Trevor Kaufmann in the 31st, Jeremy Rehagen from Tyler Nord in the 57th, and Kaufmann thanks to Joel Reft in the 83rd. For Koenig, that marked his first-career goal while Nord put himself in the assist column for the first time as a Bulldog.

Starting in goal, Zac Suazo didn't see much action behind a stout defense. Suazo made two saves before giving way to Jory Knernschield and his one stop. For team totals, Truman had the upper hand in shots (21-7), shots on goal (13-3) and corner kicks (5-3). Not only that, but head coach, Duke Cochran, was able to use 21 players with such a nice cushion for a lead.

Next up, as mentioned above, Truman will open GLVC action at Quincy on Friday (7:30 p.m.) before coming back home to face Illinois Springfield on Sunday (12 p.m.).
