Bulldogs Return Home To Host Rival Quincy

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Bulldogs are riding a five-game winning streak and will put that on the line against conference/regional rival Quincy on Saturday afternoon at Stokes Stadium.

The Bulldogs shutout Southwest Baptist for three quarters in a 38-14 win on the road in Bolivar last Saturday. Truman got two special team touchdowns, a punt block by Griffin Becker followed with a scoop and score by Malique Robbins and their fourth kick return touchdown of the season. Jaylen Jefferson raced 97 yards in the fourth quarter as Truman tops all NCAA divisions in kick returns for touchdowns this season.

Quarterback Jaden Barr was an efficient 10-of-15 for 111 yards and led the team in rushing with 81 on 12 carries. Robbins made his bid to turn the Truman running attack into the "Four Horsemen" Robbins had five carries for 40 yards including a 16-yard rushing score as Truman again ran for over 200 yards for the fifth straight game. Jordan Salima had 19 rushes for 71 yards and Andy Satulla added nine for 39.

Barr's fourth TD pass of the year went to Jake Ellis for 38-yards and put Truman up 10-0.

The defense blanked their opponents through three quarters for the second straight week. SBU got nearly half of their total offense of 336 yards in the fourth quarter. Their two scoring drives accounted for 155 yards.

The Bulldogs will be looking to avoid a classic "trap game" on their schedule with the 2-6 Hawks. Quincy put a scare into Missouri S&T at home in their last outing. The Hawks trailed 20-10 midway through the fourth quarter but got a field goal and had the ball for a first and goal inside the S&T four-yard line in the final minute of play. A fumble prevented the Hawks from possibly tying the game. Truman has a home date with fellow unbeaten and nationally-ranked Indianapolis next Saturday.

Quincy is seventh in conference rankings in scoring offense at 14.2 points per game and has dropped five of their last six games. Prior to their 35-7 loss to Missouri S&T, the Hawks fell 35-7 to Indianapolis.

The Bulldogs have dominated the series history with the Hawks. Truman has won six of the eight games played between the two schools including last year's 31-7 triumph. In that game, the Bulldogs outgained Quincy 211 to 42 on the ground and led 31-0 before Quincy got on the scoreboard with 4:46 left to play. Jordan Salima ran for 98 yards and one touchdown and Jaden Barr ran for one and tossed two touchdowns.

Quincy's first win against the Bulldogs happened in the season finale of 1951, a 43-12 win to spoil an undefeated campaign under first year coach Maurice "Red" Wade. The two teams didn't play for another 50 years when Truman won 51-7 in 2001 and 69-14 in 2002. The Hawks picked up their other win in 2015, a 23-19 home win on Halloween 2015.

Bulldog Five-Game Winning Streak…
This is the second five-game winning streak for Truman in the last three years and third in the last six seasons. In 2015, the Bulldogs reeled off five wins en route to sharing the conference title with Southwest Baptist. In 2013, Truman opened up their first season under the GLVC banner by winning their first five games but lost their final two by scores of 6-3 to Saint Joseph's (Ind.) and UINDY 21-14.

Truman has won nine out of their last 12 games dating back to the final four wins of the 2017 season.

The last six-game winning streak occurred during the 1997 season. The Bulldogs won MIAA games over Missouri Western (31-17), at Central Missouri (37-34 ot), Emporia State (44-28), at Washburn (56-7) and at Southwest Baptist (28-0).

During the present streak, Truman is averaging 285 yards on the ground per game while allowing 130 yards rushing. They have averaged 5.5 yards per rush attempt with 60 or more rushes by Jaden Barr (67-556), Jordan Salima (96-428) and Andy Satulla (76-391).
