COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Truman State University men's and women's swimming teams opened up their 2018-19 campaigns at the Mizzou Show-Me Showdown on Friday afternoon. The men finished in eighth out of 11 teams with 87.5 points while the women placed seventh out of 10 squads with 146 points.
KEY PERFORMANCES
For the men, two of their top 15 individual performances came in the 50 free where
Sam Heveroh placed third with a time of 20.93 and
Lliot Gieseke was seven spots back in 10th with a time of 21.39.
Heveroh also took home a tie for second in the 100 free with a time of 46.08.
Switching gears to the women, four of their nine top 15 individual showings belonged in the 100 breast where they were led by
Natalie Galluzzo in third with a time of 1:05.77. She was followed by
Annika Hofer in 11th (1:08.36),
Allison Garrett in 14th (1:08.82) and
Ginny Schranck in 15th (1:09.03).
The next-best showing for the women came in the 500 free where Truman's finishers included
Emma Barnett in 11th (5:15.76),
Shannon Dague in 13th (5:18.78) and
Megan Mensinger in 15th (5:21.49).
The Purple and White's final two top 15 individual outings came from
Maggie Hickey in the 100 fly where she was fifth (57.80) and
Kaylee Sisson in the 50 free where she touched the wall in 11th (25.01).
The top relay finish for both the men and women was seventh place. For the men, it was the 200 yard freestyle relay at 1:25.22 with
Jack McKenzie Austin Baker, Gieseke, and Heveroh.
The women's seventh place relay finish was in the 200 yard medley relay at 1:49.49 with Barnett, Galluzzo, Hickey, and
Alexis Poe.

"We had a very successful meet! Everyone had drops in their events and improved season best times/seeds for our mid-season taper meet as well as conference down the road. We are already way ahead of where we were last year and look forward to continued success as we head into our next couple of meets! We were able to find a few things that we can continue to work on and improve. It is always nice to race diverse competition to see where we stack up across all divisions!"

Next up for Truman is the home opener on Saturday, Oct. 13 with a tri-meet against Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville. The action will begin at 12 p.m. inside Pershing Natatorium.
