15 Bulldogs Named All-Conference By GLVC Coaches

INDIANAPOLIS – Headlined by the Great Lakes Valley Conference Special Teams Player of the Year Lawrence Woods, the Truman Football team had 15 players voted to the All-league roster by conference coaches on Thursday. Woods was a two-time first-team pick and joined Jordan Salima, Nick Verbeck, Sam Reeves and Jordan Siegel on the GLVC's first-team.

Jacob Morris, Jake Floyd, Bryan Edwards and Travis Myerson were second team choices. C.J. Brown, Zach Nadle, Brock Rohler, Andy Satulla, Josh Scheiderer and Jacob VanDoren were honorable mentions.

Jaden Barr was Truman's nominee for the GLVC Spaulding Sportsmanship award and for the fourth straight season, Truman earned the team Sportsmanship Award from the league. The Bulldogs led the conference and were in the top five nationally in fewest penalties (39), fewest penalty yards (367), fewest penalties per game (3.55) and fewest penalty yards per game (33.3).

The total of 15 matches the number from the 2016 All-GLVC Bulldog class.

First Team All-GLVC
Lawrence Woods (So.) – Defensive Utility Player/Special Teams
Woods was named the GLVC Special Teams Player of the Year and was a first team honoree both as a defensive utility player and on special teams. He returned three kicks for touchdowns, which was a school record and possessed such a threat returning balls that his 50.8 yards per return average teams shied away from kicking to him as he only had 12 returns. He accumulated 609 yards on those returns, which is the eighth most in a Truman single-season. As a defensive back, Woods made 43 tackles with two sacks and had 10 pass breakups.

Jordan Salima (Jr.) – Running Back
Salima earned his third all-conference honor in three years and moved up with his first, first-team selection. Salima had the most rushing attempts for the Bulldogs with 166 and gained 680 yards and scored six rushing touchdowns this season. The Bulldogs ran as a team for 2,349 yards which was the most since the 1996 season and 213.5 yards per game. Salima moved to eight on the Bulldog career rushing yards chart with 2,487 and is 10th on the all-purpose yardage list with 3,494 and touchdowns scored with 25. Salima was on the second team the past two seasons.

Nick Verbeck (Sr.) – Offensive Line
Verbeck garnered his first, first-team selection after making the second-team as a sophomore in 2016. The center of the offensive line limited opponents to 14 quarterback sacks this season and allowed the Bulldogs to post the second best rushing offense in the GLVC this past year at 213.5 yards per game. That total is the highest average since the 1996 season when the Bulldogs were led by Harlon Hill winner Jarrett Anderson.

Sam Reeves (Jr.) – Defensive Line
Reeves has already etched his name into the Truman record book as he became the career tackles for loss leader and is one quarterback sack from tying that mark. Reeves was third this year in the GLVC in QB sacks with 10 and in tackles for loss with 14. He is now a three-time first-team all-GLVC pick. Reeves becomes the seventh Truman player all-time to earn first-team honors at least three times in their career. He will look to join Arnold Embree (31-34), Paley Mills (58-61), Dave Grant (61-64) and Mike Richardson (62-65) as four-time first-team selections next season.

Jordan Siegel (Jr.) – Defensive Back
Siegel was Truman's top tackler in 2018 with 67 stops and nine tackles for loss. He had two interceptions, one against Michigan Tech in the season opener go for a touchdown. His other came to seal a conference road win at McKendree. Siegel was 18th in the GLVC in tackles per game and had a season-high 11 stops at Saginaw Valley in week three. This was his first all-conference honor.

Second Team:
Jacob Morris (So.) – Offensive Utility
Morris was recognized by league coaches as one of the key components of Truman's run-pass-option offense. Coming out of his full back position, Morris was either serving as a lead blocker for Jordan Salima, Jaden Barr or Andy Satulla or catching 14 passes for 119 yards. He caught five passes in the final two regular season games and also returned eight kicks as an up-man for 60 yards. This was his second all-GLVC honor after earning second-team last year as a true freshman.

Jake Floyd (Jr.) – Defensive Line
Floyd was one of the clogs in the middle of the defensive line that had the Bulldogs fourth in total defense and second in rushing yards allowed in the GLVC. Truman limited opponents to 114.7 yards on the ground while also posting 24 quarterback sacks. Floyd was responsible for 39 total tackles and eight tackles for loss in starting all 11 games. This was his first all-conference selection.

Bryan Edwards (Jr.) – Linebacker
Edwards is a three-time honoree after garnering honorable mention and second team accolades in his first two years. He was fourth this season on the defense in tackles made with 60 and had eight tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Edwards is the active leader in tackles at Truman over the past three years with 190 stops in 33 games played.

Travis Myerson (Jr.) – Defensive Back
Myerson made 54 tackles with an interception and 1.5 tackles for loss in all 11 games this season. He had a season-high 11 tackles in Truman's road win over Southwest Baptist. This is Travis' first all-conference honor and joins his father Ernie as one of the few father-son combinations to earn all-conference awards. Ernie was a first-team choice in 1987 and a second-team pick in 1986.

Honorable Mention
C.J. Brown (Sr.) – Tight End
Brown was an honorable mention for the second straight year. He was tied for second on the team this season in receptions with 15 for 162 yards and caught his only touchdown pass against Quincy in a home win. Eight of his 15 grabs came in the final four weeks of the season. For his career, Brown caught 34 passes for 387 yards on two touchdowns.

Zach Nadle (Fr.) – Defensive Back
Nadle was one of eight true freshmen to play this season and ended third on the team in total tackles with 61. There were seven first-year players on the all-conference list and joins teammate Josh Scheiderer as Truman's representative. Nadle had a single-game high of 10 tackles at Saginaw Valley in week three. He also added a pair of interceptions, one at Valparaiso and another in the finale at Missouri S&T.

Brock Rohler (Sr.) – Kicker
Rohler helped the Bulldogs to the top spot and eighth nationally in net punting average at 38.5 yards. He was second in the GLVC in punting average at 40.8, which was also good for sixth on the Truman single-season honor roll. In punts, Rohler had 15 of his 44 fair caught, 14 inside the 20 and 12 returned for an average of 4.8 yards per. He averaged 59.4 yards per kickoff with 23 touchbacks. Rohler finished his Truman career with 7,843 punt yards, good for second, 206 total punts and a career average of 38.07, good for seventh on the career list.

Andy Satulla (Sr.) – Running Back
Satulla was the third member of the Truman rushing attack with 523 yards on 103 carries and five touchdowns this season. During the Bulldogs six-game winning streak, the first since 1998, Satulla accounted for 82 attempts and 430 yards. He also caught 15 passes for 95 yards an added three kick returns for 35 yards. He ended his Truman career with his first all-league nod and 20th on the career rushing list with 1,326 yards.

Josh Scheiderer (Fr.) – Kicker
Scheiderer tied the school record for field goals in a season with 15, he led the Bulldogs in scoring with 78 points and was sixth in the GLVC in scoring at 7.1 points per game. He was first in field goals per game at 1.36 in conference and second in both field goal and point-after percentages at 71.4% and 97.1% respectively. He tied a Truman single-game record with four made field goals in a road win at Valparaiso.

Jacob VanDoren (So.) – Offensive Line
VanDoren set the edge on a lot of the Bulldog running plays at left tackle and earned his first all-conference honor. VanDoren played in all 11 games and helped the Bulldogs to a 213.7 yards per game rushing and only 14 quarterback sacks. He was also key in helping quarterback Jaden Barr become Truman's single-season rushing leader as a quarterback with 910 yards and seven touchdowns. The previous record was Phil Davis' 833 rushing yards in 2010.
