RECAP: Wade Tosses CG In Victory Over Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Matt Wade tossed his first complete game as a collegiate in Truman's 4-1 win in game on Sunday over Rockhurst. The Hawks won the series by taking the nightcap 7-3. The Bulldogs will host Missouri S&T for the season finale starting on Friday at noon.
 
Series Notes:
  • Charlie Kreh had his hitting streak stopped in game three but reached base in all four games to extend that streak to 19 games. His hitting streak was halted at 17 games, second most by a Bulldog since 2004.
  • Kreh hit .400 for the series with six hits in 15 at bats and one double. Ethan Kleinheider and Mason King both had four hits apiece.
  • The Bulldogs batted .184 for the series with three extra base hits, two doubles and a home run out of their 21 hits.
  • Rockhurst hit .303 with five doubles and a home run
 
Game 1 Box Score
  • Mason King and Charlie Kreh drew walks in the first inning and scored on Evan Kayser's eighth home run of the season to stake the Bulldogs to a 3-0 lead.
  • It was Kayser's 10th collegiate home run and the eighth season round tripper entered the single-season top 10 with Chris Illiopoulos (2017) and Todd Schmitt (1990).
  • A double followed by an RBI single by Corbin Hare cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Truman got the run back in fifth when Adam Stolley reached on an error and swiped second. He would score on an RBI single by Ethan Kleinheider.
  • Matt Wade hurled his first collegiate complete game going all seven innings and allowing just the one run on five hits and six strikeouts. Wade threw 90 pitches.
  • Kreh's 17-game hitting streak was ended as he went 0-for-2 but kept his reached base streak alive with the walk.

  • Rockhurst sent eight hitters to the plate with RBI singles by Alex Van Pelt and a two-run single from Connor Effefson with two outs for a 3-0 lead.
  • They would add an unearned run in the fifth and got a two-run homer from pitcher Henry Weiler in a three-run sixth for a 7-0 lead.
  • Truman stranded the bases loaded in the sixth after Weiler faced one-over the minimum through the first five.
  • A leadoff walk issued to Ethan Kleinheider got Truman on the scoreboard in the eighth when he touched the plate on a wild pitch.
  • Kory Carter hit a ground rule double and a pair of sac flies tallied two more runs for the Bulldogs in the ninth.
  • Charlie Kreh reached base three times, twice on fielder choices.
  • The Hawks used 22 players in the finale to the Bulldogs nine position players and three pitchers.
  • Weiler got the win going six-plus innings and allowing four hits.
  • Bryan Clark was tagged with the loss after giving up five earned runs on eight hits working into the sixth innng.
